Chapter 4
When I woke up, Ryan’s guilty eyes were staring down at me.]]
“Scarlett, you’re awake! Are you hurt anywhere? I was worried sick all night.“[]
I turned away. “What are you doing here? We broke up. I don’t want to see you.“[]
Ryan was pulling at his hair, apologizing over and over: “Scarlett, please don’t leave me! I didn’t mean to hurt you–I just panicked!”
Tears were dropping onto the hospital sheets, soaking through in dark spots.]]
Like breaking up with me was the most unbearable pain of his entire life.[]
I stared at him coldly and made my demand: “Then delete Madison. Block her completely. Never contact her again.“[]
His tears stopped. He looked at me confused. “But there’s really nothing between us!“]
Seeing my icy expression, he hung his head in defeat: “Fine. I’ll never contact her again.“[]
This was actually hilarious.[]
I was just testing him–didn’t matter if he blocked her or not, I was done with him either way.[]
But right now he looked like I was forcing him to cut out the most important part of his life.]
Eighteen years losing to one month.]
Pretty fucking pathetic.
Ryan spent half the day fussing around the hospital room, trying to fix things between us.[]
But I stayed completely cold and detached.]
When his phone rang, he panicked and glanced at me.[]
“I’ll take this outside–it’s someone from the club.”
I grabbed his arm. “Put it on speaker. Answer it right here.”
Ryan frantically turned down the volume and answered.[]
“Ryan! Why the hell did you block Madison? She’s locked herself in the activity room crying her eyes out!“]
“Be a man and go comfort her! Stop revolving around that jealous psycho before you lose your damn mind!“[]
Ryan quickly hung up, trying to look devoted: “I’m not going anywhere. I don’t give a shit if she cries. You’re the only one I care about.“]
Chapter 4
I laughed and didn’t respond.[]
The rest of the time, Ryan was completely distracted.]]
He overfilled the water cup, cut his hand peeling an apple, checked his phone every ten seconds.[]
After I pretended to fall asleep that night, Ryan–who’d insisted on staying–left the room.]]
I opened my eyes and followed him to the door.“]
Saw him pacing frantically in the hallway, calling over and over.[]
Ten minutes later, someone finally picked up.[]
He hissed into the phone: “Madison, what the FUCK–you trying to give me a heart attack? Don’t you dare ignore my calls again!”
“Stay exactly where you are! I’m coming right now!“]

“I’m gonna fuck you senseless tonight! Let’s see if you try using other guys to make me jealous again!”
Something inside me cracked open, cold wind rushing through the gap.]]

Even though it was over 80 degrees outside, I was shaking uncontrollably.[]
Eighteen years of childhood sweethearts, and in the end it all came down to his dick getting hard for one second.[]
Actually, Ryan got one thing wrong–he didn’t follow me to this college.
I lowered my standards and came here for HIM.
I watched him walk away without hesitation, clutching the file I’d just received on Madison, and I didn’t say a word to stop him.[]
Respect people’s choices, drop the savior complex.]
But when he finds out the truth, whether he’ll regret his decision… well, that’s hard to say.
I picked up my phone and called my parents:]
“Mom, Dad. Right now, immediately–get me transferred to another school.”
My parents were stunned, asking what happened.
I said calmly: “Ryan cheated and put me in the hospital.“[]
