Chapter 30 Bald Women

Considering Sibley and Joy had no experience surviving in an apocalyptic world, Kiara didn’t suggest they go on a free shopping spree right away. Instead, she had them do some strength training for a couple of days.
She thought it would be difficult to get them to work out, but both Sibley and Joy did surprisingly well.
Sibley, being an architecture student, knew that hands–on experience was crucial. She often went to construction sites to gain experience, so her physical strength was decent.
As for Joy …
“I’ve been fighting with my cousin since I was a kid. I built up my strength that way.” She rubbed her cheek, looking slightly embarrassed.
She had always been a troublemaker, constantly fighting her cousin, who was only slightly older than her, and she had to win every time. Over time, her strength naturally grew.
Don’t ask her why she had to win every time. It was because she would never admit defeat.
Kiara massaged her forehead, finding Joy’s explanation was actually quite reasonable.
Even though the two of them already had decent physical strength, she still taught them a few of her most lethal moves and techniques that had saved her life countless times in the apocalypse.
If something went wrong, they would at least have a fighting chance.
Joy also made some modifications to Kiara’s moves.
As a medical student, she had dissected countless bodies and had a thorough understanding of the human body inside and
out.
She knew the exact spot to hit to deliver a fatal blow.
Even Kiara learned a lot from practicing the improved moves with Joy.
It just goes to show you shouldn’t mess with a medical student. She was more convinced than ever that bringing Joy into her team was the right decision.
Meanwhile, outside had turned into complete chaos.
Four days before, Skyhaven completely lost its water and electricity. People could endure the power outage, but without water in the extreme heat, many people were losing their minds. However, tenth floors of their building.

For the past few days, people had been blocking the staircase, yelling at Kiara and her friends to stay on the ninth floor for the rest of their lives. But no one dared to break in because of the electric gate.
Kiara couldn’t care less about their profanity.
The more they curse, the more energy they waste and the faster they die.
After days of practice, they decided they were ready to go out.
Kiara gave Sibley and Joy two greasy–looking wigs and told them to wear them when they left.
With no water or power, people could barely eat, let alone keep their hair clean.
There was no water shortage in Zioría at the moment, but no one was crazy enough to go all the way to the beach to wash their hair and take a shower in such hot weather.
Joy stared at the wig, then grabbed her dad’s old electric shaver and, in a few swipes, shaved her head bald.
$he handed the wig back to Kiara and rubbed her prickly scalp with satisfaction. “This works just fine. Co too. I’ve been wanting to shave my head for ages.”
Kiara was speechless at her action.

That’s just so Joy.

Kiara’s eye twitched as she looked at Joy’s shiny and smooth head. She wondered if Joy would regret her decision when she found out that it would start raining heavily in less than a month, followed by extreme cold.
Sibley also thought for a moment and quickly shaved her head.
Kiara had told them to collect as much water as possible these past few days and had given them a few large water tanks.
They had filled all the water tanks, but no one knew when the water would be turned on again.
She and Joy had been conservative with their water use these past couple of days. Even after sweating all night from exercising, they only used a towel to wipe themselves down. Their long hair felt more like a burden.
It was better to shave it off, and it helped them stay cool.
Kiara couldn’t help but look away from the two newly bald women.
Both of them were staring
at Kiara. She instinctively touched her short hair and felt a shiver down her spine.
For the first time, Kiara felt she should care about her appearance.
That night, Kiara put on her insulating suit, her bulletproof vest, a black tracksuit over it, a face mask, and a baseball cap. She went to the gym, picked out the most striking mace, and armed herself, ready to leave.
Just as she was walking out of the living room, Alec, who had been recuperating, stopped her and said, “Wait.”
He coughed twice and slowly stood up straight. “You want to go gather supplies, right? I’ll go with you.”
As a former special forces soldier, his physical fitness was already much better.
After a few days of recovery, he was looking much better.
“I never said I wanted to team up with you,” Kiara said and tugged on her backpack. “Once you’re all healed, you can leave. This is my way of repaying you for saving my life.”
Over the past few days, she’d tried hinting around to see exactly what Alec knew about her. But every time she did, he’d just give her that deep and unreadable look and say nothing.
She was afraid that he knew about this secret and that he wasn’t the only one.
