Chapter 28 The Lockdown
In the apocalypse, having medical skills meant you could walk around the base freely.

Besides, she was also planning to install an electric gate at the staircase on the ninth floor, which would require electricity.
“Really?” Joy’s expression lit up instantly and she threw herself into Kiara’s arms. She sobbed and said, “From this moment on, I declare you my best friend for life.”
Sibley was just as happy. “Kiara, that’s great!”
Kiara was a total slacker in school. She majored in tourism in college, and as soon as she graduated, she traveled all over the place. She was totally clueless about electrical circuits.
Joy might seem a bit naive, but she’s actually a legit top student. Despite that, she majored in medicine, so she wasn’t familiar with electrical circuits either.
Both of them turned to Sibley.

Under their intense gaze, Sibley nodded and said, “I can do it.”

She was an architecture student. Despite her delicate
and frail appearance, she was genuinely skilled.
When Kiara found out that Sibley knew how to weld, she was surprised.
She moved the electric gate from the rooftop storage room down to the ninth floor and brought her toolbox along.
Sibley gave a signal when she saw Kiara had all the tools ready, indicating that this was no big deal.
She wasn’t surprised that Kiara had this stuff. She had always been insecure. She had always wanted to install an electric fence in her residence, but she gave up on the idea after being persuaded by Sibley, as they lived in the law–abiding society.
Under the admiring gaze of the two amateurs, Sibley not only hooked up the power on the ninth floor but also welded the gate at the staircase with the help of Kiara and Joy.
Once the gate was in place, Kiara took out three padlocks from her back and locked them onto the gate. Then, she handed out the keys to Sibley and Joy.
The world was too chaotic at the moment. Each of them had to unlock all three before anyone could leave. This doubled the level of security..
Sibley kept her key close to her body, then walked over and hugged Kiara tight, burying her face in her neck while she said, “Kiara, thank you.”
After the tragedy at her house, it was Kiara who risked her life to take her away. Not only did she give her parents a dignified farewell, but she also found her a place to stay.
Kiara smiled and pinched her cheek, saying, “Still as cute as ever.”
After a brief moment of hug, Sibley stepped back and took out the small bag she’d been carrying.
When she left last night, she had no intention of going back, so she brought all her valuables with her.
It was fortunate that her mom had a habit of keeping all the valuable items in a safe. She just cleared and pack from the safe into her small bag.

Sibley pulled out two gold bars, handed them to Joy, and said, “Joy, I don’t know how long this disaster will last. Take and consider it my rent for the next two months.”

Joy wasn’t someone who cared much about money. She quickly shook her head and replied, “No need. This place is empty anyway. It’s great that you’re staying. You make this place feel livelier.”
Her parents were abroad, and it was still uncertain when they’d return.
Even if they did, they could all live together.
This place was nearly 300 square meters, which is more than enough for three people.

Sibley walked straight over and stuffed the gold bars into Joy’s hands, then took out a charm necklace and gave it to Kiara.
“Kiara, I just got here and had nothing to eat at home. Can I exchange this necklace for some food?” Her eyes reddened at the thought that her parents died because of food.
This charm necklace had been passed down through generations in her family. She gave such a precious item to Kiara not only in exchange for food, but also to thank her for everything she’d done the previous night.
The charm necklace caught Kiara’s eyes. It was made of good material.
She thought about it for a while. She would be living together with Sibley for a long time.
She didn’t bother with the fake modesty and accepted it. “I can give you two sacks of flour, various seasonings, meat, and a bit of beverages and frozen treats, but I don’t have much else.”
Joy had stocked up on supplies because of Kiara’s suggestion, so it would be a lie to say she had nothing.
Clear accounts make good friends, and Kiara didn’t want to have a conflict with her good friends over such matters in the future.
Sibley was delighted. The world outside was in complete chaos. Let alone having a full sack of flour, even just a pound of it would cost one’s life.
Those people in Skyhaven had been eyeing Kiara’s place, mainly because they’re too scared to go out themselves.
Rather than going out there and risking their lives, why didn’t they just take from her?
However, if they wanted to get into her house, they’d have to step over her dead body first.
Joy had been listening the whole time and suddenly strode over to grab Sibley’s hand. “You can cook, too?”
Sibley nodded.
Her parents were both working full–time, and when they had to work overtime, she was the one who cooked for the family.
Even Kiara’s cooking skills had greatly improved after getting guidance from her.
