Chapter 1
Elijah Watchmaker was the housekeeper’s daughter, and she had lived with her mother in the Morgan family’s mansion since she was a child.
That morning, she and her mother were summoned to the living room. Mrs. Morgan’s expression was icy, her face ashen with rage.
“You’ve really stooped to a new low, Elijah.”
“Always playing the sweet, innocent goddaughter, calling me ‘godmother‘ to my face, while you sneak into my son’s bed behind my back!”
Mrs. Watchmaker didn’t dare question Mrs. Morgan. Her voice trembled as she pushed at her daughter’s shoulder.
“You foolish girl, what did you do to upset Madam? Apologize! Hurry and apologize!”
But Elijah stood frozen, silent, staring at the floor.
Mrs. Morgan gave a sharp, cold laugh.
“I took you in as my goddaughter out of kindness, and you repay me by acting like the household
whore.”
“Your mother’s worked here for over ten years, and this is the daughter she raised?”
She suddenly slammed a phone down in front of Elijah.
“Such a little slut from such a low–class family, you’ll do anything for money.”
A blurry photo was displayed on the phone screen. It had been taken in bed. The girl’s pale arm was visible, and the man’s arrogant, sharp, and handsome features were unmistakable.
It was Ethan Morgan, the Morgan family’s only son.
Beneath the photo was a caption:
[I don’t want to keep hiding anymore. I just want to kiss you openly in front of everyone.]
Ethan was the Morgans‘ only child. He never brought any woman to the house.
The only one who could get that close to him was Elijah, his sister not related by blood, as well as
the housekeeper’s daughter, who had grown up under the same roof as his “adopted little sister.”

The implication was glaringly obvious. The servants whispered among themselves:
“I knew she wasn’t innocent–always looked sly and shameless…”
“Like mother, like daughter. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.”
“Can you believe this? Madam takes her in as her goddaughter, and she still tries to climb up the ladder and become the young mistress? Pathetic!”
Mrs. Morgan sneered.
“Trying to use online gossip to force your way into the family? Do you even know your place? Do you deserve it?”
Elijah lifted her head, her eyes rimmed with tears.
The moment she woke up last night, pinned beneath Ethan’s weight, she thought she was
dreaming.
But it wasn’t a dream. She had truly been reborn, back to when she was twenty.
Right now, she hadn’t even realized she was the girl in that photo. She hadn’t married Ethan yet.
She still had a chance to change everything.
“…That post wasn’t from me.”
Mrs. Morgan scoffed, and Ethan’s gaze darkened.
Mrs. Watchmaker gripped her daughter’s arm so tightly it hurt, her voice sharp with panic.
“If the Morgans hadn’t taken us in, I’d have drowned us both years ago! How can you be so
ungrateful?”
“You’re not in the same class as the young master. How could you even think of such a thing?!”
“Go apologize to Madam right now! Now bow down and beg for forgiveness!”
But Elijah didn’t.
Her mother’s patience snapped, and she slapped her hard across the face.
“How did I raise such a disaster of a daughter!”
Yet Elijah didn’t resent her mother. Mrs. Watchmaker was weak, terrified, and simply protecting

her the only way she knew how.
Elijah wiped the blood from the corner of her lip and looked straight at Mrs. Morgan.
“Madam, I’ve always seen Ethan as an older brother. I’ve never had any improper thoughts about him.”
“Even if you don’t believe me, surely you trust his judgment, don’t you? There’s no way someone like him would ever look at me that way.”
Her voice was calm, sincere.
“Ethan… he’s already in a relationship.”
“His girlfriend is Hannah Lopez, the heiress of Lopez Corporation. They’re in love, and they’re perfectly matched.”
She emphasized the last four words deliberately: perfectly matched.
“That post might just be a little game between them.”
“Couples these days love to post little inside jokes like this.”
Mrs. Morgan hesitated, suddenly unsure.
Mr. Morgan, who had been silent until now, finally spoke up.
“So, Ethan’s really dating the Lopez heiress?”
He turned to look at his son.
Elijah saw her chance to clear Ethan’s name. She fully expected him to nod without a moment’s
hesitation.
But Ethan stared at her for a long moment, then gave a low, mocking laugh before nodding slightly.
Mrs. Morgan’s entire face lit up with relief and delight. She grabbed Elijah’s hand warmly, as if
none of the venomous accusations from moments ago had ever been said.
“You silly girl, why didn’t you tell me sooner? Such wonderful news, and you’ve been hiding it from us along with your brother!”
Ethan got what he wanted. The relationship exposed, but his face was anything but pleased. His lips curled into a cold smirk.

“So, you finally decided to call me ‘brother‘ today, huh?”
“What happened? Realized you’ll never make Morgan–level money in eight lifetimes, so you’ve stopped pretending to be aloof and finally accepted your place as our precious little goddaughter?”
Elijah froze for a second, stung, but before she could respond, Mrs. Morgan snapped at him softly.
“Ethan! Watch your tone!”
“Elijah is our goddaughter–we acknowledged her ourselves. Isn’t it natural for her to call you brother?”
“You really need to control that temper of yours. Hannah is a pampered heiress; do you expect her to put up with your moods forever?”
No one paid any attention to Elijah and her mother’s humiliation.
Mrs. Morgan only cared about one thing, that was Ethan’s temper ruining the family’s perfect marriage alliance with the Lopezes.
Ethan gave a cold, humorless laugh. “She’s mine. I’ll handle her the way I want.‘
With that, he turned and headed upstairs without another glance.
Elijah’s chest tightened, a sharp ache spreading beneath her ribs.
Ethan… in this lifetime, you’ll finally be with the woman you’ve always loved.
I only hope… from now on, our paths never have to cross again.
