Chapter 14
The dinner banquet was lavish, and Mrs. Morgan was brimming with enthusiasm as she showered Hannah with endless praise.
Hannah, sweet–tongued as ever, flattered her back effortlessly, earning a radiant smile in return.
Between the two of them, Elijah might as well have been invisible.
Ignored from start to finish, she simply focused on her plate, quietly savoring the so–called “Australian lobster” and “Wagyu beef” without complaint.
Finally, as the banquet neared its end, Mrs. Morgan, who was emboldened by a little too much wine, let something slip.
“Once you’re married off, Elijah, our Ethan should be thinking about settling down too.”
She added warmly, as if bestowing a blessing:
“But even after you’re married, you must always remember this family. The Morgans will always be your home, and you should do your best to look after us.”
Elijah’s lips curved in a cold, mocking smile.
The Morgans had never raised her, never nurtured her. Their shamelessness was staggering, speaking as if they had some kind of claim to her.
Ethan’s face darkened instantly.
“Mom,
what are you even saying? Elijah’s still young–why are you already talking about marriage?”
“And besides, since when do we need her to ‘look after‘ the Morgans? I’m still here, aren’t I?”
His sharp tone drew a slight pout from Hannah, who immediately clung to his arm and softened her
voice.
“Oh, Ethan, Mrs. Morgan only meant well. If you don’t look out for Elijah as her older brother, isn’t it natural for her to worry instead?”
She lowered her gaze sweetly and added with a feigned sigh:
“Girls want love too, Ethan. You can’t hold her back forever.”

Mrs. Morgan, half–drunk and swaying, mumbled something incoherent:
“Ah, you know nothing about it, son…”
And with that, she finally tipped over into complete intoxication, ending the banquet on an
awkward, suffocating note.
After dinner, Elijah stood quietly on the landing of the staircase, gazing out at the rain streaking across the dark windowpane. That’s when she heard footsteps behind her.
Hannah had dropped the sweet, docile act; her expression now was sharp, mocking, and laced with
contempt.
“I know Mrs. Morgan’s trying to set you up with the Howards, but you don’t seriously think you’re about to marry into high society, do you?”
Her voice dripped with derision as she leaned closer:
“That Leon Howards you’re supposed to meet? He didn’t even inherit any shares from his family’s company. Now he’s thrown all his money into starting some little business called ‘Eternal Light
Corp.“”
She let out a derisive snort
“Hah. If that gamble fails and he ends up broke, you’ll be the one supporting him. Actually, maybe that’d suit you two perfectly–a pair of pathetic losers.”
But Elijah froze. Her mind caught on one phrase. Eternal Light Corp.
Wait. Leon Howards.
That was the same name she had just read about. The mysterious founder of Eternal Light Corp. The very man she was supposed to meet tomorrow… was actually its creator?!
It felt like a stroke of pure luck. Elijah stood there stunned, her heart pounding with both disbelief
and giddy excitement.
Meanwhile, Hannah wasn’t done. Her voice sharpened, twisting like a knife:
“I know you, Elijah. You climbed into Ethan’s bed right after high school. Three years of being his little toy–you can’t tell me you didn’t expect more from him.”
Her smirk widened as she leaned even closer, each word deliberate and cruel:

“But let me tell you this–if a man truly cared about you, he wouldn’t keep you as some secret he’s too ashamed to claim. He wouldn’t use you for years without giving you a title, a promise, or a
shred of dignity.”
She lowered her voice to a venomous whisper:
“People like you aren’t even qualified to be called mistresses. You’re just… free entertainment.”
Hannah gave a cold laugh, her tone turning falsely generous.
“And don’t worry about that million dollars you borrowed from Ethan back then for your mother’s
treatment–I’ll cover it for you.”
“After all, I’m going to be Mrs. Morgan someday. What’s a measly million to me? Think of it as your payment for three years of services rendered.”
Hannah tilted her head, her voice sugar–coated poison.
“Ethan enjoyed you, didn’t he? Better you than some stranger off the street. Clean, convenient, and
cheap. I should be thanking you for keeping him entertained all these years.”
Her words were calculated to provoke, but Elijah… didn’t flinch.
She wasn’t even listening anymore. Her mind was still spinning from the revelation that Leon and
Eternal Light Corp were one and the same.
Seeing no reaction, Hannah frowned, frustrated that she couldn’t break her.
She crossed her arms and sneered.
“Wow, you’re really good at pretending, aren’t you? Acting all innocent when everyone knows what
you are.”
Then, as if remembering something, Hannah smirked triumphantly.
“You know, introducing you to Ivan was me being nice. He just wanted to have a little fun with you, and you called the cops on him for ‘assault‘?”
“What, you’re a wildcat in Ethan’s bed but suddenly a saint with Ivan? Please. Ivan only even noticed you because of me. And you still think you get to choose?”
Hannah’s voice rose as she rambled, her bitterness spilling over.
By the end, she had practically confessed everything. Every underhanded scheme, every

manipulative move, without realizing a thing.
Elijah simply tilted her head slightly, her lips curling in silent amusement.
Villains really do destroy themselves by talking too much.
Without saying a word, she pulled out her phone, stopped the recording she’d started earlier, and slid it back into her pocket.
