Chapter 9
Diana strolled into a coffee shop, rocking a casual hoodie and jeans, her face lit up with a youthful grin.
“Diana, over here!” A good–looking guy by the window stood up and waved.
Her expression softened when she saw him, and she walked over with a smile.
“Jasper, it’s been ages! When did you get back?” she asked, sliding into the seat across from him.
Last night,” Jasper replied, looking worried. “When I got home, all your stuff was gone. I asked Mom and Dad, but they said…”
He trailed off, but Diana got the gist. Aiden and Emily probably had nothing nice to say.
“Diana, are you okay?” Jasper asked softly after staring at her for a bit.
“I’m fine,” she replied with a smile.
There was a moment of silence.
After a while, Jasper broke it with a low voice. “Diana, I’m really sorry. I’ve been abroad these past few years, I didn’t know…”
“Jasper, it’s not your fault,” Diana cut him off with a bitter smile,
Even if Jasper knew what Aiden and Emily had done, he probably couldn’t have done much about it.
In her past life, when Aiden and Emily forced her to sign the surgery consent form, Jasper had rushed back.
He tried so hard to protect her, but in the end, she got her hands cut off and died tragically.
In this life, she was determined to protect Jasper.
Diana, what are you thinking about? Are you feeling okay?” Jasper asked, seeing her lower her head, her face looking thinner than before. His
heart ached.
“I’m fine,” she said, looking up with a faint smile. “By the way, Jasper, I have something to tell you. I got married.”
“What?” Jasper’s eyes widened in shock.
He was about to ask mure when a pleasant ringtone interrupted.
She picked up, asking, “Hello, Grandma, what’s wrong?”
“Diana, Howard is in trouble! Sophia’s anxious voice came through the phone.
*Grandma, don’t worry.” Diana reassured her gently. “Tell me which hospital he’s in, and I’ll be right there.”
“Okay,” Sophia said, sounding a bit calmer. “He’s at Evergreen Hospital.”
“Alright, I’m on my way. After hanging up, Diana saw Jasper staring at her.

Chapter 9
“Grandma!” Diana called out as she arrived at the hospital and saw Sophia sitting on a bench outside the waiting room. She hurried over.
“Diana!” Sophia’s worried face relaxed a bit when she saw her.
“Grandma, how’s he doing?” Diana asked softly, helping Sophia sit back down.
“I don’t know if Howard was just unlucky today, but he was walking down the street and got caught in an explosion nearby,” Sophia said, wiping her moist eyes. “Diana, do you think I should go to church and pray for Howard?”
“Grandma, Mr. Spencer will be fine. Don’t worry too much.” Diana still wasn’t used to calling Howard by his name, but luckily, Sophia was too focused on Howard to notice.
They sat on the bench for what felt like forever before Howard finally came out of the examination room.
Diana frowned slightly at the sight of Howard’s bandaged arm.
“Howard, how are you?” Sophia’s face turned pale as she looked at his bandaged left hand.
“Grandma, I’m fine. It’s just a minor injury,” Howard reassured her gently.
Your hand is all bandaged up and you call that nothing!” Sophia glared at him, but seeing he had no other injuries besides his left arm, her expression softened a bit.
“You need to be more careful when you go out! I can’t handle these scares at my age,” Sophia muttered softly.
Howard couldn’t help but smile.
“And you scared Diana this time. Make sure to comfort her later,” Sophia added.
Howard’s faint smile faded slightly, and his deep eyes looked at Diana with a hint of surprise.
Diana awkwardly twitched her lips, thinking she was just worried about Sophia.
Howard and Diana’s eyes met awkwardly, and they fell silent.
Sophia didn’t notice the awkward atmosphere between them. She took both of their hands and said, “Come on, let’s go back home. I’ll have someone make some soup for you to replenish your strength.
Diana couldn’t refuse Sophia’s request, so she silently followed, keeping a small distance between her and Howard.
Diana glanced at Howard a few times, then hesitantly asked, ‘Are you still carrying that gem?”
Howard didn’t say anything, but his expression stiffened for a moment.
Diana stared at Howard’s profile for a while and understood.
Howard seemed to believe her words on the surface, but in reality, he didn’t
If he did, he wouldn’t still be carrying that gem.
They walked in silence.
Back at the Spencer Villa. Diana was forced to take several bowls of soup under Sophia’s watchful eye before she could catch her breath and take a wall in the small garden to digest.
