Joey ignored Dante, his gaze fixed lovingly on me.

I couldn’t believe my ears.
The man who had abandoned me for his career actually had the nerve to say such things.
“Joey, are you delusional?” I asked, my voice cold.
Joey seemed not to hear my scorn and continued.
“I admit, I was wrong back then. But it was for our future!”
“I see that now. All the status, the money… it means nothing without you.”
His eyes became wild and obsessive.
“Come back to me, Elena. We’ll start over. It’ll be just like it was before.”

“Do you
remember this suit?” Joey noticed my gaze and preened, adjusting his collar.
“You made this for me. I didn’t appreciate it back then, but now I know.”
“Only the clothes you make are what I truly want.”
My eyes scanned him and landed on the suit he was wearing. The one I had made for him years ago. The same handmade suit he had once scorned as tacky.
Hearing his words now just made me feel sick.
“What did you say back then? That my clothes were tacky, that I wasn’t worthy of your status.”
“And now you want to start over? What do you take me for, Joey? Something you can throw away and then pull out of the trash whenever you’re feeling nostalgic?”
“Joey, you’re disgusting.”
A flash of embarrassment crossed Joey’s face, but it was quickly replaced by his lovesick expression.
“That was just me being young and foolish. I’m mature now. I know what true love is.”
“Elena, we have Angelo, we have so many beautiful memories. Can Dante give you that?”
“He’s only interested in your beauty. Once he’s tired of you, you’ll be nothing.”
“But I’m different. I truly love you.”
“Joey, you really are insane,” I said, enunciating every word.
“We were over a long time ago. I have my own family now, my own happiness.”
“Now get the hell out!“.
My words enraged Joey, and his face twisted.
“Don’t push me, Elena!”
“The fact that I’m here begging is already a favor to you!”
“Do you
think
you can have a good life after leaving me?”
He tried to approach me, but the door was kicked open. Four bodyguards in black suits rushed in and quickly subdued him.
Dante looked at him coldly.
“My men have had eyes on you for three days. I just didn’t think you’d be stupid enough to deliver yourself to my doorstep.”
“Consider those last ten minutes a gift from me.”
Joey was pinned to the floor, but he remained defiant,
“Dante! Do you really think she loves you?”
“She’s just using you! Once she gets what she wants, she’ll throw you away!”
“You’re just enjoying my leftovers!”

Hearing that, Dante’s eyes grew even colder.
He walked over to Joey and knelt.
“What did you say? Say it again.”
Joey seemed cowed by Dante’s murderous aura, but he still talked tough.
“I… I’m telling the truth! Elena is just a…”
Before he could finish, Dante’s fist connected with his face.
Joey cried out in pain, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth.
Dante’s voice was pure ice. “Get him out of my sight.” He paused, his gaze locking onto Joey’s terrified eyes. “And this time, make sure he sinks.”
“No! Don’t!” Joey struggled in terror. “Elena! Save me! For Angelo’s sake, save me!”
The bodyguards dragged him out without a shred of pity.
