Chapter 8
Getting back on my original path, I realized this was where I truly belonged.
I returned to my family’s company, stepping straight into management, shares in hand.
Naturally, some people weren’t thrilled, but I wasn’t about to let anyone walk all over me–especially with Mom and Dad backing me up.
I adapted to my new role quickly.
Thanks to years of training, I could spot issues in reports with pinpoint
accuracy.
Having dealt with all sorts of people, I could read personalities and strengths at a glance, assigning tasks with precision.
Work consumed most of my time, and the busy days helped me forget the mess of my past. of my past.
Suddenly, it all made sense.
Success in my career brought me more fulfillment than love ever did.
After wrapping up a major project, I decided to treat everyone to a celebration.
While waiting at the entrance of the resort, I unexpectedly ran into Kayla.
She was dressed to impress in a brand–new Dior dress, looking

glamorous and polished.
She acted like she hadn’t seen me and strode right in, only to be stopped at the door.
Her face twisted in annoyance, and she snapped at the staff, disbelief dripping from her words.
“You’re clearly open for business–why won’t you let me in? Do you want to lose your job? Watch out, I’ll file a complaint!”
The staff member was young, probably new, and had never dealt with someone so unreasonable before. She looked terrified.
“Ma’am, we require reservations here, and today the whole place has been booked.”
Kayla’s reaction was explosive, a far cry from her usual delicate demeanor.
“Do you have any idea who I am?
“I’m warning you–if you know what’s good for you, you’ll let me in. If you piss me off, I’ll make sure every last one of you gets fired!”
The staffer, a young woman, was caught off guard by Kayla’s tirade, tears welling in her eyes.
Trying to calm Kayla down, she was on the verge of crying herself, her voice trembling, “Ma’am… I’m really sorry…”
Just then, my team
and another staff member led us inside.
Kayla spotted me and suddenly pointed, shouting, “Eloise, what are
you doing here?

“If you’re allowed in, why am I not? You’re just looking down on me! I’m reporting all of you–I’ll make sure every stuck–up jerk here loses their job!”
As Kayla continued her hysterical rant, Austin walked over. Instantly, Kayla switched gears, clinging to him and whining, “Austin, I don’t know what I did to upset Eloise, but she told the staff to keep me out.”
He started to scold me out of habit, but when he saw me, he froze..
I didn’t look anything like I used to.
I was dressed in a sharp business suit, bold red lipstick, and my makeup flawless.
Seeing the flash of awe in his eyes made my stomach turn, and my voice came out laced with sarcasm.
“Looks like Mr. Cadwell isn’t doing so hot–can’t even get a reservation at a resort. Your girlfriend’s been harassing the staff, and she dragged me into it, too.
“So much for all that talk about manners, Mr. Cadwell. Seems like some people didn’t learn a thing.”
Kayla glared at me, clearly not backing down, so I continued.
“Let me guess, you’re about to say I’m framing you again.
“But sorry, there are security cameras here. Want to take a look?”
I shot a meaningful glance at the cameras.
Austin’s pride took a hit. He snapped at Kayla, “You insisted on coming here–didn’t you know you needed a reservation? Stop making a scene! If you’re not embarrassed, I am!”

Kayla burst into tears, glaring at me with resentment.
I ignored her and turned to Austin, my tone unreadable.
“Since your girlfriend thinks I’m keeping her out, I’ll play the good guy and grant her wish.”
Then I turned to the nearby staff and instructed.
“Add Mr. Cadwell and his girlfriend to the blacklist, please.”
It was almost poetic–this resort belonged to my family, and today, I was in a generous mood. Let them have what they wanted.
Ignoring their stunned expressions, I suddenly remembered something and turned to Kayla.
“Oh, by the way, Ms. Watkins, that dress you’re wearing is Dior’s latest release. It hasn’t even hit stores here yet. Mind telling me where you bought it? Maybe you can give me a recommendation?”
With that, I walked inside without looking back, leaving their bickering behind me.
