Chapter 7
The moment my father’s words landed, the room erupted into chaos.
Some reporters‘ eyes were already red as they turned on Sabrina, voices sharp with outrage.
“Miss Lowe! The evidence is right here! Don’t you have anything to say for yourself?”
“You’ve been telling everyone that Vivian’s daughter died because of her own carelessness. That it had nothing to do with you. Then look at this–look at how you schemed to push her into a summer camp full of hazards. What was your real intention?”
“You owe us an explanation! This can’t just be swept under the rug!”
Ethan, who had been frozen in shock, suddenly snapped back to life under the weight of their condemnation.
His bloodshot eyes blazed as he spun toward Sabrina, grabbing her collar in a grip so tight his knuckles went white. His voice was nothing but venom.
“Why, Sabrina? What did a child that young ever do to you? Why did you have to kill her? Tell me why?”
Panic clouded her gaze. She shook her head, tears spilling down her cheeks.
“It wasn’t me, Ethan. That video–it’s fake. I didn’t do it. I swear, I didn’t-”
Her plea ended with the sharp crack of his palm across her face.
“Fake? You think I’d believe that? You told the press the hotel footage was fake too–do you think I don’t know the truth? You’ve been playing me for a fool. I thought you were decent, but you’re nothing more than a venomous liar.
Sabrina’s eyes widened in shock. For a long beat, she stared at him as if she couldn’t comprehend the betrayal. Then her expression twisted with hate.
“Don’t forget how you got your precious captain’s badge, Ethan Without me, you’d still be groveling for the Kingsleys‘ approval.” “You didn’t care about your daughter enough to stop her from going. You were the one who blew up at Vivian and forced her to agree! The person who killed your daughter… Is you,
“My diagnosis report is real. The investigation cleared me. You will not pin that brat’s death on me. I’ll have my father here in no time to deal with all of you.”
She yanked out her phone and started dialing–though I already knew that call would never connect.
