Chapter 4
Around midnight, the vibration of my phone yanked me out of sleep.
An intrusion alert from the camera in my daughter’s room flashed across the screen.
I opened the app–and nearly retched,
On my daughter’s princess–themed bed, Sabrina had her head nestled against Ethan’s chest, her voice syrupy sweet.
“Ethan, I want to have your baby… right here on this bed.”
He hooked a finger under her nose in a mock caress, his smile warm but laced with hunger.
“Alright… right here on this bed.”
The sounds that followed through the speaker made my stomach chum.
Thurled the phone at the wall
Those two were going to pay–and not just with shame.
My daughter had loved peace and quiet, so I’d invited only close friends to her memorial.
But when I arrived at the funeral home the next morning, the entrance was swarmed three–deep with reporters.
At the center of it all, Ethan stood arm–in–arm with Sabrina, dressed as if they’d just stepped out of a wedding shoot–her in a champagne silk dress, him in a light suit with a boutonniere smiling for the cameras.
“Anyone can see the video Vivian posted online was take,” he told the cameras. “After the service, she’ll clarify that herself. Grief over losing our daughter made her act out. I hope you’ll all understand.”
My gaze caught on the deep red of his suit, the faint trace of lipstick on his neck. My pulse spiked.
He must have felt my stare, because he excused himself from the crowd and strode toward me.
Before the reporters could close in, his fingers clamped around my wrist.
He bent close, his voice a low threat. “Vivian, if you don’t want your daughter’s funeral turning into a circus, you’ll clear Sabrina’s name today–and apologize to her in front of everyone.”
The cameras were closing in fast, their lenses trained on us.
A tremor of pure fury rolled through me,
This man–this stranged wearing my husband’s face–was actually using our daughter’s funeral to grovel for another woman “Vivian, apologize,” he pressed, his tone sharp. “Don’t push me. I’ll do whatever it takes to protect Sabrina’s reputation.”
The press was on us now, a wall of microphones rising between us.
“Mrs. Carrington, is it true the video you posted was fake? Why are you always in conflict with Ms. Lowe?”
“Mrs. Carrington, today is your daughter’s funeral. Can you give the public a clear, honest account of how she died?”
Ethan’s glare sliced into me like a blade.
I took the mile from one of the reporters, never looking away from him.
I give you an answer. My daughter’s death was no accident–It was planned.”
“The one who killed her was Sabrina Lowe. Cold–blooded murder. And I have proot.”
Ethan’s eyes widened In shock

Sabrina’s composure cracked, panic flickering in her gaze.
I let the corner of my mouth curl into a slow, feral smile.
