Chapter 5
Before I could react, Jenna walked over from inside and casually draped herself over Declan’s shoulder:
“Oh! Look who it is! Hey there, Sophia!”
Seeing me, she didn’t avoid anything.]
Instead, she looped her arm through Declan’s:[]
“We were just about to eat. Want to join us?“]
I kept my expression cold.[]
Just as I was about to speak, I saw Marcus emerging from the kitchen.]
And there on the floor was a fat, huge black cat.]
Seeing my silence, Jenna stuck out her tongue awkwardly and sheepishly let go of Declan:]
“Your wife is upset again.“]
She shrugged helplessly at me:[]
“Marcus and I are getting married next month.“[]
“Since we’re all here, why don’t we eat together tonight-“]
“No thanks.” Declan cut her off coldly.
He stepped forward and grabbed my wrist. “Sophia’s not hungry.“]
He snatched the baseball bat from my hands.]
And threw it hard onto the ground.[]
Clang.
I jumped.]
Instinctively, I covered my belly.[]
But Declan didn’t care at all. The way he looked at me was ice–cold, without a trace of warmth:
“Still making a scene?“]
I was still trembling.
Just barely holding back tears.]
Chapter 5
And Declan, who’d always been incredibly gentle with me, reached out and shoved me hard toward the exit-
Bang. He slammed the door shut.]
I immediately fell to the ground, instinctively calling out: “Declan!“[]
From inside, Jenna’s fake concern drifted out:]]
“She is pregnant after all. What’s one more place setting? Maybe we should-“]
Declan sounded thoroughly irritated:]
“So what if she’s pregnant? Does the whole world have to revolve around her?”
“A little fall won’t kill her. Other anant women work right up until their due date. She’s just spoiled and looking for drama!”
From inside the apartment, Declan’s voice continued to echo in my ears:[]
“I honestly don’t know why Sophia’s so paranoid, acting like a psycho.“]
“Should I really take her to see a shrink? I’m so sick of living like this!”
I smiled bitterly as I struggled to my feet.]
The day I found out I was pregnant, Declan
had cried and laughed at the same time.
Happy about our love bearing fruit.[]
But also worried about what I’d have to go through.]]
For days, he’d toss and turn at night. Just thinking about me going through childbirth, walking through death’s door, made him hold me tight with overwhelming tenderness.]
In just two months, that tenderness and love seemed to have expired.
I slowly walked back to our apartment.[]
The cheerful laughter from next door rang in my ears.[]
Especially hearing Jenna’s seductive giggles made me even more irritated.]
After scheduling tomorrow’s consultation about the abortion, I simply pulled the covers over my head.[]
I drifted into a restless sleep.
I don’t know how long I’d been out when a series of banging sounds woke me up.[]
Intense rhythmic pounding.
Listening carefully, I could hear a woman’s moans mixed in.[]
