Chapter 19
After their meal, Latrina casually said, “Isn’t this outfit too casual for our marriage certificate?” In response, Gerhart took her to a private tailor, where he had her makeup done and helped her change into something more suitable.
That was so typical of a straight guy.
They spent two hours getting ready before heading to City Hall, but she still had to change when they got there, and ended up wearing the same
white shirt as him.
It was her first time getting married, and she had no experience.
But luckily, they got the marriage certificate smoothly, so Latrina was now officially married.
On the way back, Latrina stared at the marriage certificate in her hand, feeling a whirlwind of emotions.
She had fantasized about marrying Eduardo so many times, but in the end, she realized she’d chosen the wrong guy.
She never thought she’d get married so casually, and never imagined it would be to a wealthy CEO.
While she wasn’t sure if the future would be perfect, she felt content for now.
“Do I regret it?” she asked herself sincerely.
She didn’t know.

But Latrina knew that after their night together, he kept asking if she wanted to be his wife, and he seemed genuinely sincere.
He removed the door twice for her.
Maybe this was just fate.
So, she probably didn’t regret it.
She was so tired that she dozed off without even realizing it, and she couldn’t remember when her head had slipped onto his shoulder.
“We’re home,” Gerhart whispered, glancing at her face, which looked even more beautiful with the makeup.
Her fair, rosy skin seemed smoother, and her curled eyelashes fluttered as she woke up.
“Sorry…” Latrina quickly brushed the makeup powder off his shoulder.
Gerhart looked at her adorable face and couldn’t help but smile.
“Exhausted, huh?” he asked.
“No,” she replied.

Back at the villa, it wasn’t yet dinner time. Latrina sat awkwardly, fidgeting with her fingers.
“I have a dinner party tonight. Don’t wait for me,” Gerhart said.
“Okay.”
With that, he went out with Kelvin.
Latrina breathed a sigh of relief.
“How thrilling it is! She plopped down on the couch, closed her eyes, and muttered.
After a few minutes, she went upstairs to their shared space and began unpacking the luggage from the night before.
She had only brought back the essentials from abroad year ago, and she finished quickly.
She entered the study and looked around. On the left was a wall of books and a small table. On the right was his desk. In the middle was an empty table with a few books on it.
She thought for a moment, picked up her phone to call Gerhart, but saw a new friend request on WhatsApp.

It was Gerhart.
This damn guy!
She smiled, pursing her lips, and accepted the request.
“Hello, Mr. Crowley. Looking forward to spending more time for the rest of my life,” she wrote.
“Hello, Ms. Glover, I’ll listen to you for the rest of my life,” he replied.
She raised an eyebrow. Was that supposed to be a love line? Where did he get that from?
Truth was, he didn’t know how to reply, so he asked his advisor Kelvin, who told him to just send it as is.
She playfully puckered her lips.
Later that night, after dinner and washing up, she lay down and sent a message to her mom, Sierra Glover.
Sierra had been gorgeous in her youth. She was living abroad now, and should be getting up about this time.
“Sierra, I got married,” she wrote and sent a photo of her marriage certificate.
I wasn’t even awake. You startled me awake,” Sierra replied.
Latrina rolled over, her face suddenly turning red for some reason.
“He looks good. Is he nice to you?” Sierra asked.
“Pretty good,” Latrina replied.
They chatted on and off, and she eventually fell asleep.
Latrina didn’t wake up even when Gerhart knocked on the door late into the night.

He stood by the bed, glanced at her chat with Sierra on her phone, and smiled. He put the phone aside and carefully tucked her in. After washing up, he didn’t lie down but kept working in the study.
After he finished washing up, he didn’t lie down, but kept working in the study.
Latrina was woken up by the sound of him typing on the keyboard.
She groggily opened her eyes, saw the light on in the study, and realized she needed to use the bathroom, so she slowly got up and walked over.
To get to the bathroom, she had to pass through the cloakroom and then the study.
As she walked past, she saw Gerhart still frowning at the papers.
He was wearing gray loungewear, with two buttons lazily undone, revealing a bit of his collarbone. His deep eyes under the rimless glasses met the drowsy gaze of Latrina.
“Did I wake you up?” he asked.
She shook her head. Why are you still up?”
“There are still some files to deal with.”
“Oh,” she said and then headed to the bathroom.
When she came back, Gerhart had just shut down the computer.
Latrina was stunned
“Should I say something at this moment?” Latrina wondered. She got nervous and suddenly wasn’t sleepy anymore.
She lay down and pretended to be asleep.
A few minutes later, she felt the mattress dip as he lay down beside her.
She didn’t dare open her eyes. She’d almost forgotten they were married now.
Her heart was racing, and her fingers clenched into fists.

“Good night,” Gerhart said softly.
Latrina didn’t say a word.
She kept pretending to sleep.
The next morning, Gerhart woke her up.

“You can continue to sleep after breakfast.”
He seemed to be in a good mood with a half–smile on his face. It was a rare sight compared to his usual cool demeanor.
Latrina rubbed her eyes and glanced at her phone.
Was he always so energetic? He had stayed up late last night, yet here he was, up early at seven–thirty.
He stood by the closet, changing into a shirt right in front of her without a hint of awkwardness.
Latrina quietly grabbed the blanket and covered her eyes.
Do you want to go to the office with me?” he asked, walking over while buttoning his shirt.
“No, I…”

She was about to say she’d drive her own car, but then remembered it was still at the Plum Apartments.
“Kelvin brought your car back last night. It’s in the garage. The key is on the nightstand,” he said.
“Okay,” she replied, still hiding under the blanket, too shy to look.
It wasn’t until Gerhart left and closed the door that she slowly uncovered herself.
“Latrina, how does it feel to be pursued by Mr. Crowley?” Kelvin’s morning message read.
“Pursue me? I took it as you were wishing me well.”
Why call it pursuing? Everything happened after they slept together.

Latrina thought, “We just got married without really knowing what was going on. I thought I was pregnant… but nope, just starving myself. It was a huge misunderstanding.”
The maid prepared a nutritious breakfast. Latrina had never experienced such treatment before and felt really satisfied.
“Mrs. Crowley, Mr. Crowley asked you to tak
this,” the maid said, handing her a small, delicate cup.
Yesterday, she was still Ms. Glover, but today the maid immediately changed and called her Mrs. Crowley. Latrina didn’t react right away.
She looked at the thermos in the maid’s hand.
“There’s warm milk inside. It’ll keep you warm. Mr. Crowley said you had to take it. Drink it if you’re thirsty,” the maid explained.
Was Gerhart really that sensitive? He didn’t say it himself but had the maid pass the message.
“Okay, Latrina said.
She slung her backpack over her shoulder, took the pink thermos from the maid, and headed toward the
garage.
