Chapter 10
After a while, she looked away and greeted Hayden, “It’s been a
while, Hayden…”
Hayden was very delighted to see her again. He pulled her onto
the sofa and asked her how she had been doing for quite some time, and only then did everyone head to the dining table.
Hayden took the main seat, and Joaquin was on his right-hand
side.
Romina sat next to Jericho, while Kashton sat between him and
Nadine.
Halfway through the meal, a retching sound shattered the
seemingly harmonious atmosphere.
“Daddy… I feel awful. So itchy…”
In the next second, the plate in front of Kashton fell to the floor,
causing a loud clang.
He grabbed Jericho’s hand, keeping retching and trembling.
“What happened?” Hayden immediately sprang to his feet,
looking worried.
Jericho rolled up Kashton’s sleeve at once.
The back of his hand was covered in red rashes.
“Kash must be having an allergic reaction,” Nadine frowned,
analyzing anxiously. “But he only reacts to mustard. None of
the dishes today contain it.”
No matter what, Kashton was Romina’s flesh and blood. Even
though she was getting a divorce from Jericho, she couldn’t
turn a blind eye to his condition.
She strode toward him, lifted his shirt, and glanced at his belly.
It was indeed an allergic reaction.
And it seemed pretty serious.
Kashton had been allergic to mustard since childhood. Once, he
had accidentally consumed some due to a servant’s negligence
and fallen into a coma.
Thankfully, the amount was smaller this time, so he remained
conscious.
Jericho picked up the sauce dish and sniffed.
He immediately frowned. “Who made this sauce?”
Romina’s gaze fell upon Nadine. “She did.”
Chapter 10
Nadine denied it right away, “But I didn’t add any mustard.
Besides, I gave it to you right after I mixed it, Ms. Sandoval.”
Everyone looked at Romina.
“What are you saying?” Romina’s expression darkened as she
raised her voice. “Are you suggesting I did this to Kashton?”
“Ms. Sandoval, honestly, I don’t want to accuse you of anything,
but I know for sure that I didn’t add mustard. I know you’ve
been holding a grudge against me for the time you served in
prison, and I get it that you wanna frame me. But … targeting
your own son?”
By saying this, Nadine pinned the blame squarely on Romina.
Romina’s eyes were burning with rage.
So, this was why Nadine had been so insistent about letting her
help in the kitchen.
This whole thing was a setup.
Given the standoff, Hayden mediated, “Call the family doctor
here. Others can wait.”
“Yes, Sir Bowman.””
The housekeeper hurried out to make the call.
Jericho grabbed Romina’s arm. “Is what Nadine said true? Did
you add the mustard?”
She blurted out, “No, I didn’t.””
Kashton said, “Mommy, Nadi’s been good to me. She’s never
harmed me. But you hurt her before. How could you do this to
me?”
“I told you I didn’t,” she insisted.
But no one believed her.
That made sense.
A celebrated Best Actress and an ex-con?
The credibility gap spoke for itself.
No amount of explaining would make a difference now.
Jericho spat, “After three years in prison, you’re still as vicious
as ever, Romina. You’d stop at nothing to frame Nadine,
wouldn’t you? I can’t believe I married you!”
Meanwhile, Kashton started to sob. “Mommy, I’m so
disappointed in you…”
Chaos erupted.
Just then, Hayden growled, “Jericho, stop blaming Romi. We
still don’t know what exactly happened. I believe she wouldn’t
do such a thing.”
His words instantly caught everyone’s attention.
Romina looked over, only to meet Joaquin’s gaze.
He leaned against the chair, witnessing the scene casually.
It seemed he was merely an onlooker enjoying a farce.
“Hayden, are you saying…” Nadine’s eyes reddened, “that I did
this?”
Hayden snorted coldly, not saying a word.
Everyone in the family knew he loathed women in showbiz,
which explained his strong opposition to Jericho seeing Nadine.
