Chapter 10
“What?” David got so worked up that he nearly bumped into the guest nearby.
Alexander frowned in displeasure, thinking. The maid just mentioned Ms. Veronica Weston. Is she the other Weston heiress Grandpa wants me to marry? Didn’t she just come back from a poor village?
So why is she at home wrecking her own sister’s music room instead of trying to get along with her family? Is this out of spite and jealousy!
Hearing the crying from upstairs, Alexander was almost certain of his judgment. He snorted, “Mr. Weston, since there are issues in your household, I’ll leave you to them. I’ll take my leave.” With that, he turned and walked away without looking back.
“Wait, Alexander, David hurriedly said. He chased after Alexander. But when Alexander showed no sign of staying, David stopped and turned back, rushing upstairs.
What followed was inevitably another round of chaos. But whether it was David, Linda, or Chloe, none of them gained the slightest advantage over Veronica
Acting as if nothing had happened, Veronica came downstairs after driving the three of them into fury and told the maid to have Jomeone clean up the music room and set it up as her bedroom
The maid, who had overheard the whole incident from downstairs, looked uneasy as she glanced upstairs.
Veronica smiled, “Don’t worry. Mr. Weston has already agreed.”
Upstairs, David heard this and nearly fumed with rage. Yet aside from shouting and losing his temper, he had no way to stop her.
Mason had already made it clear that if Veronica so much as went to him and said that David’s family mistreated her, then David’s family could forget about inheriting any portion of the estate
For the sake of money, David had no choice but to endure,
David told Linda about it. She had only been putting on a show of tears, and the moment she heard his words, not a single trace of grief remained her eyes flared with seething hatred.
Linda thought, Why? My daughters and Veronica are all heiresses of the Weston family. Why does Mason refuse to even acknowledge my daughters as his granddaughters, yet protect that bumpkin he’s barely met? Are my daughters not as good as that short–lived bitch Claudia’s kid?
Linda was not convinced. Her eyes shifted as an idea came to her. “David, listen to me,” she said, rising on tiptoes to whisper a few words into David’s ear.
David’s brows furrowed, his expression showing hesitation. But then he thought, That brat Veronica really is too cocky.
‘She needs to be knocked down a peg and humiliated, just so she remembers that in Cloudhayen it’s our family that calls the shots and I’m the one in charge here.”
Alexander left Weston Villa in a hurry and returned to the Harrington family’s villa in Cloudhaven. As soon as he walked in, Stephen couldn’t wait to ask, “Well? Did you see Ronie?”
There was a gleam in Stephen’s eyes, and his tone was full of admiration when he spoke of Veronica.
Alexander’s mood was the complete opposite. He sat down heavily, gulped a mouthful of water, and finally said, “I didn’t see the brilliant and remarkable girl you mentioned. But I did see a vile, vicious bumpkin who bullies her stepmother and sister.”
Stephen was stunned. He thought, ‘Are we really talking about the same person!

She’ll just received a call from Colton, who told her there would be a welcome party for her tonight at Weston Manor, and that he would come pick her up. She had come to the bus stop now to go out and get a dress.
Veronica stood at the bus stop replying to messages on her outdated keypad phone when a Lincoln limousine stopped in front of her. Hearing the sound of several people getting out, she shifted aside without lifting her head.

“Ms. Weston?” A strange female voice came from beside her. Veronica looked up at the young woman she didn’t recognize.
The woman looked to be around thirty, with delicate makeup and a well–tailored outfit. Even her smile seemed measured to perfection.
When Veronica gave a slight nod, Alicia Mooney’s smile deepened. “Hello, Ms. Weston. My name is Alicia Mooney. From this moment on, I’ll be your personal assistant.”
As Veronica looked at her with confusion, Alicia continued, “This is Ivan Levine, and this is lan Pierre. They’re responsible for your safety. And this is your driver, Scott Hooper. She pointed to the men standing firmly to the side as she spoke.
Veronica seemed even more puzzled. She had given Leonard strict orders not to reveal her identity, so these people couldn’t have been arranged by him. She thought, “Could it be Uncle Colton?’
Alicia saw through Veronica’s confusion and handed her a brand–new phone with a smile.
Veronica hesitantly lifted it to her ear, and a deep, unfamiliar male voice came through. Ill be in Oakrella for the next few days handling a project. You’ll stay put here. The people assigned to you will be on duty twenty–four hours a day.”
Veronica blinked. That voice didn’t sound like Colton. “Who are you? she questioned
Raymond was signing documents while speaking on the phone. Her words made his hand pause, and the pen in his grip drew a stray line down the page.
For a moment, there was only silence. Then his lowered voice came through the receiver. “Raymond Harrington.
“Raymond Harrington? Veronica repeated.
Of course she had heard the name. Back in the village, when she had nothing to do, she had invested a little in funds and finance.
During that time, she had often heard people talk about a financial genius named Raymond. But she didn’t understand what that had to do with her.
“Do we know each other? Veronica asked. If it had been any ordinary girl facing such a scene and then learning his identity, she would have been overjoyed. But instead of excitement, Veronica’s reaction was strikingly calm.
Alicia, who had been observing her new boss closely, noticed that Veronica’s expression was genuiné. Veronica didn’t seem thrilled at all. Alicia nodded to herself and thought, ‘She’s impressive!
On the other end of the line, Raymond was momentarily at a loss for words, He set down his pen, pinched his forehead, and forced out a few words through clenched teeth. “I said I’d devate myself to you.”
Veronica froze. A cold, detached face flashed in her mind as well as her own offhand joke. She thought, ‘So this guy actually took words seriously?”
my
Raymond spoke. “Alright. I’m going into a meeting now. If you need anything, go to Alicia. And if someone gives you trouble, don’t just stand there and take it. Do whatever you think is right. I’ve got you covered.”
With that, he hung up before Veronica could even respond. Rendered speechless, she couldn’t believe what had just happened.
Even after she’d slipped into a gown and had her makeup done, Veronica still hadn’t come to her senses. When she looked in the mirror, the girl staring back at her, with rosy cheeks and flawless skin, hardly even felt like her at all.
She thought, ‘All I did was meddle a little and save some random guy. How did I end up being clung to like this? And by Raymond, the famous young prodigy? How could this be? This feels like a scam”
Alicia, with her flawless social skills, was already standing to the side, watching Veronica with that perfect smile as she laid on the flattery. “Ms. Weston, you’ll definitely be the most gorgeous girl at the party tonight. Can I send your picture to Mr. Harrington!”
She had already snapped two shots before finishing her sentence.
Veronica didn’t know what to say. She thought, So why even bother asking me first?
