Chapter 5
Everyone froze for a second when they heard the name. A heavy silence followed.
Luke was the first to react. He lunged at the officer and grabbed him by the collar. “What kind of sick joke is this? Harry
Zimmer is my dad, and her father–in–law! How the hell could the baby be his?”
Harry, who had been standing in the crowd stirring up the drama, was stunned, too. He immediately shoved his way through the reporters and pointed at the officer, shouting furiously, “You punk, what the hell are you talking about?
“Wasn’t it that bastard Jayden who raped my daughter–in–law? That kid’s gotta be his. What’s it got to do with me?”
The reporters were all dumbfounded.
“What the hell is going on? Did the test get messed up? How could the baby belong to her father–in–law?”
“This is insane. That poor woman came looking for justice after being assaulted, and now the police messed up the test? Isn’t that just hurting her all over again?”
“But DNA tests never go wrong, right? Unless… no way… could she really have… with her father–in–law? Ugh, my brain hurts just from thinking about it!”
The chatter grew louder and more chaotic by the second. I, on the other hand, just stood there, smirking like I was watching a
circus.
I was glad that it was blowing up and spiraling out of control. I’d love to see who would end up being destroyed this time. Tricia finally realized something was off. She stormed up and yanked the test results out of the officer’s hand. Her eyes scanned the final line, and when she saw Harry’s name written clearly, she screamed, “No! This can’t be right! This test is fake!
Then she whipped her head around and glared at me and Jayden, her face twisted in rage.
“You tampered with it, didn’t you? Jayden’s loaded. He must’ve bribed someone and had the results switched behind the scenes!”
Jayden was beyond done at this point. “I was dragged here out of nowhere without even knowing what the hell was going on. Who the hell could I have bribed?
“Tricia, are you seriously delusional? Paranoid much?”
Back in my last life, when Jayden found out about the test result, he had been the one freaking out, accusing Tricia of faking everything and demanding an investigation.
Now the tables had turned, and the one screaming about rigged results was her.
My smug look was probably too obvious. The moment Tricia saw me, her expression shifted. Her eyes narrowed, and she pointed at me with a shriek.
“It was you, Simone! You’re behind this!
“No wonder you’ve been calm this whole time, even when the officers dragged you in! You had this all planned, didn’t you?” She gave a cold snort, then seemed to compose herself a little, putting on a face like she’d just cracked the case,
She turned toward the officer. “I want to file a formal complaint! I suspect Simone bribed you to fake the DNA test results. I demand to have a new test done at a bigger, more reputable facility!”
