Chapter 4
Or rather, let’s break up.
Liam’s face darkened, his expression chilling to the core.
“Scarlett, are you threatening me?”
He didn’t believe for a second that she truly wanted a divorce.
He knew her situation all too well.
Scarlett couldn’t go back to her own family.

She had no one else to turn to.
Besides, she’d loved him so desperately–enough to try to end her own life over him.
For three years, she hadn’t contacted him, hadn’t mentioned divorce even once.
And now, suddenly, she wanted out?
There was only one explanation: Chloe’s pregnancy had hit her hard.
This was her way of forcing his hand, of trying to break him and Chloe apart.
“This isn’t a threat,” Scarlett said calmly.
“I’ve just come to terms with everything. When we first got married, I thought you might come around. Then you left, and I clung to the title of Mrs. Hawthorne to spite Chloe.”
She paused, her voice softening.
“But now, I don’t see the point. Chloe’s pregnant, and the child’s innocent. I don’t want to stand in the way of your happy little family.”
She smiled faintly, as if the words didn’t sting.
Liam’s gaze burned through the rearview mirror, his eyes sharp and accusing.
“Do you even believe yourself, Scarlett? If it’s so easy to move on, why did you do what you did three years ago? Why did you… try to end it all?”
For a moment, Scarlett’s eyes dimmed, her composure faltering.
But she recovered quickly, tossing her hair over her shoulder with a languid grace.
“You can think whatever you want,” she said lightly.
“If you don’t agree, fine by me.”
Liam let out a cold laugh, finally looking away from her.
The idea of divorce had hit him harder than he expected.
For a brief moment, he’d felt something twist in his chest.
But now, he saw it for what it was–a bluff, a ploy to test him, to manipulate him.

He sneered.
“Scarlett, you’re unbelievable.”
Scarlett barely reacted. She’d heard worse from him before.
Her indifference seemed to unnerve him.
He couldn’t stand the sight of her calm, amused expression, as if she couldn’t care less about him.
“Scarlett, you’re pathetic,” Liam spat.
She didn’t flinch. If anything, her smile grew sharper, her voice steady and unbothered.
“Sure, Liam. Whatever helps you sleep at night.”
They arrived at the Hawthorne estate just as the sun began to set.
As soon as Scarlett stepped out of the car, Vivian, Liam’s mother, was already waiting on the front steps.
Her expression was anything but welcoming.
Instead of joy at seeing her son after three years, her face was clouded with irritation.
“So, I hear you brought that little vixen back with you?”
Vivian’s tone was sharp, her glare directed straight at Liam.
Liam shot Scarlett an accusatory look, but she simply held up her hands in mock innocence.
“Don’t look at me. I didn’t say a word. I haven’t even had time to make a call,” she said with a shrug.
