Chapter 8
Victor Grayson immediately broke into a cold sweat.
“Miss Reynolds, perhaps you could name your price?”
I twisted my lips into a playful smile.
“What exactly do you mean by asking me to name a price, Uncle Victor? Are you planning to settle this matter with money?”
“To be honest, I’ve encountered many tough characters over the years, but I’ve never seen a young master with such blatant disregard for the law as your son.”
“If this had happened to an ordinary person today, would your son have even bothered to show up in person? Or would he have just made a phone call to make it all go away?”
Victor Grayson trembled, unable to meet my gaze.
“Miss Reynolds, today’s incident was indeed our family’s fault, and I’m willing to make amends.”
“Just name your terms, and I won’t haggle–you have my word!”
Maxwell had never seen his father so humble, but to save face in front of his employees, he reluctantly spoke up.
“Dad, our family is practically aristocracy in New York. How can you bow your head to someone so easily?”
I raised my eyes to meet his, my tone tinged with mockery.
“So… Mr. Grayson still believes your family can control everything in New York with a snap of your fingers?”
Although I’ve had limited contact with the outside world in recent years, I’ve met plenty of powerful people.
And in terms of both wealth and influence, the Grayson family wouldn’t even rank among those I know.
“Listen here, Reynolds, I’m not as easily fooled as my father.”
“If you’ve got any real power, go ahead and show it!”
I checked the time and let out a cold laugh.
“Mr. Grayson, confidence is a good thing, but blind confidence is your mistake.”
“This Grayson family you’re so proud of and constantly mention? From where I stand, it’s really nothing special.”
At these words, Victor Grayson’s expression immediately changed.
As he was about to speak, I quickly raised my hand to interrupt him.
“Uncle Victor, you heard what your son just said, didn’t you?”
“If I don’t respond in some way today, others might think I’m an easy target because I’m from out of town.”
Just as I finished speaking, Maxwell’s phone rang.
He glanced at me furtively, hesitated for a few seconds, but ultimately answered it.
“What did you say? Say that again!”

Chapter 8
Maxwell stared at me with wide, disbelieving eyes.
“What?”
“The company’s finances are under investigation? Indefinitely sealed?”
“And it’s a special investigation team directly from the Federal Justice Department?!!”
After repeated confirmations with legal, Maxwell was completely stunned, his head turning toward me as slowly as rusty robot.
“You… you did all this?”
Maxwell’s expression told me that even after hearing the news of his company’s bankruptcy firsthand, he still couldn’t believe what I was capable of.
However, this time, I didn’t even need to speak. Victor Grayson, who had been holding back for so long, couldn’t contain himself any longer and shouted:
“Maxwell! Damn it! How could I have raised such a fool like you!”
“Haven’t you caused enough damage already? Are you determined to bring down the entire Grayson family before you’re satisfied?”
Victor Grayson slapped his thigh, looking utterly disappointed.
“Maxwell! Don’t you understand even now why I arranged this marriage?”
“I can turn a blind eye to your usual antics, but today of all days, you had to offend Miss Reynolds!”
Victor Grayson became increasingly agitated as he spoke, eventually stomping his foot in frustration.
I’m not exaggerating when I say that there wasn’t a hint of hyperbole in what he just said.
Over the next five minutes, after Victor Grayson’s earnest persuasion, Maxwell finally had his moment of realization.
“Dad… are you saying this woman’s background is so powerful that even the Grayson family can’t afford to offend her?”
At this moment, every person present looked at me with dramatically changed expressions, filled with fear.
Especially Tiffany, who was trembling in the crowd, not daring to make eye contact with me.
“Mr. Grayson, you should be grateful you didn’t cross any further boundaries with me earlier.”
“Otherwise, bankruptcy would have been the least of your concerns.”
