Chapter 7
M
Seeing the scene before me a group of bodyguards surrounding me, ready to attack–Victor Grayson’s face turned pale with fear.
“Miss Reynolds, am I too late?”
I glanced at my watch. It had been exactly 10 minutes.
“Uncle Victor, your timing is perfect. Your precious son was just about to assault me.”
Victor Grayson was true to his word, responding with sincere apology–with a resounding SLAP, five bright red fingerprints instantly appeared on Maxwell’s face.
“You fool! Do you have any idea what you’ve done? Apologize to Miss Reynolds immediately!”
Maxwell was clearly stunned by the slap, looking at his father in complete confusion.
“Dad, have you lost your mind? Why are you hitting me?”
“She’s the one who disrespected you and looked down on our family. Why are you taking an outsider’s side against me?”
Seeing this scene unfold, my anger subsided slightly.
But this was far from enough! The Grayson family still owed me an explanation!
Victor Grayson glared furiously at his still–defiant son and delivered another slap.
“You have the nerve to ask me why?”
“Miss Reynolds has her reasons for acting this way, and it’s not your place to question her!”
He turned to me with an apologetic smile, then faced the crowd again.
“Any employee who has spoken disrespectfully to Miss Reynolds today is fired, effective immediately!”
I had to admit, the founder of the company handled situations much more decisively and intelligently than his son.
I glanced at Maxwell, who was now seething silently, hesitant to speak.
Obviously, even now, his mind was still in complete confusion.
He couldn’t understand why his father would be so angry on behalf of an outsider.
Unfortunately, the reason behind this was known only to a select few, and Victor Grayson happened to be one of them.
“Uncle Victor, this young man clearly has no respect for the Grayson family. Mr. Grayson was just trying to save face for your company. Why are you so angry?” Secretary Warner stepped in to mediate.
“Even if this woman has some connections, we’re still in New York. At the very least, Grayson Industries needs to maintain its dignity!”
The onlookers nodded in agreement with Secretary Warner’s words.
But this time, her smooth talking didn’t earn the same appreciation as it had from Maxwell.
Victor Grayson’s eyes flashed with anger and a hint of disgust as he coldly responded:
“You’re my son’s personal secretary, correct?” Secretary Warner, missing the tone in his voice, was about to take credit when a bucket of cold water

was dumped on her.
“You’re fired.”
Hearing this, Secretary Warner stumbled backward, nearly losing her balance.
She attempted to lean against Maxwell for support, but to her surprise, he immediately stepped away. He dared not defy his father’s wishes.
In an instant, the scene erupted into chaos again.
To outsiders, it might seem that Victor Grayson, having been away from business for years, couldn’t read the current situation.
But only I knew that everything he was doing was to protect the Grayson family–a last–ditch effort.
So I found myself an excellent observation spot and temporarily handed the stage over to him.
Sure enough, Victor Grayson’s performance didn’t disappoint me.
In front of all the employees, without concern for his image, he pointed at his son and unleashed a tirade.
“Maxwell, I am ordering you as the founder of Grayson Industries to apologize to Miss Reynolds immediately.”
“If you continue to be stubborn and persist in this, I’ll disown you as my son!”
Caught between the company’s reputation and his father’s command, Maxwell fell silent.
As the atmosphere suddenly quieted, I slowly stepped forward.
“An apology won’t be necessary.”
“It seems the connection between me and the Grayson family has reached its end.”
