Chapter 1
My father called me from my classified government job, asking me to come home for a visit. He’d arranged a marriage for me.
According to him, my prospective husband had everything going for him–not only was he handsome, but he was also the renowned CEO of a publicly traded company in New York.
Due to my special status at work, I couldn’t fly commercially. My boss lent me his personal vehicle,
I reached my fiancé’s corporate headquarters right on schedule and was about to back into a parking space when a red Ferrari came speeding toward
- me.
I couldn’t brake in time, and we collided.
The owner rolled down her window, her face contorted with rage as she screamed at me:
“You little bitch! Are your eyes in your ass? Do you even know how to drive?”
I suppressed my anger and countered, “You clearly stole my parking spot. How dare you blame me?”
She looked at me with pure contempt.
“Your parking spot? What are you talking about?”
“Listen, dumb ass. I’ll tell you something–in New York, even the pennies falling from the sky belong to the Grayson family. Got it?”
I froze for a few seconds, then pulled out my phone and called my fiancé.
“I’ve heard from people at your company that the Graysons could run New York. Is that true?”
If it weren’t for my father’s sake, I wouldn’t have even bothered with this call.
Damaging my boss’s car wasn’t something money alone could fix.
If my future husband apologized properly, I might be able to smooth things over.
“I’m busy. Make it quick,” he snapped impatiently.
“Mr. Grayson, I think you should come down here yourself, before-”
Before I could finish, the line went dead.
I stood there, momentarily stunned.
Is this how all rich people behave?
Seeing my reaction, the woman who’d stolen my spot burst into laughter.
“And here I thought you were somebody important. Turns out you’re just all talk.”
“If I were you, I’d pay up quickly. If Mr. Grayson finds out his car was hit, you might not make it out of New York alive.”
She clearly didn’t take me seriously, seeing I was only in my early twenties with out–of–state plates.
“Ma’am, do you have any sense of decency?” I asked, “You cut me off and stole my spot. I should be the one demanding compensation, yet you’re trying

to scam me?”
I pointed to the security camera above us.
“This is all on video. If you keep twisting the facts, I’ll call the police right now!”
At the mention of police, she became even more belligerent.
“Save your breath, princess. Even if the cops show up, you’ll just end up paying more.”
As she spoke, I detected the unmistakable smell of alcohol on her breath.
I clenched my fists and narrowed my eyes.
“You don’t want me calling the police because you’ve been drinking, haven’t you?”
Hearing this, she immediately shoved me hard.
“Whether I’ve been drinking is none of your damn business! Pay up now!”
“If you try to get out of this, I promise you won’t leave New York in one piece!”
Having spent years isolated in my government facility with minimal public interaction, I had no idea how to handle such an aggressive confrontation.
Her outrageous behavior was pushing my anger to dangerous levels.
“You crashed into my car, and now you’re blaming me? Is something wrong with your brain?”
My words drew gasps from the gathering crowd.
“Holy shit, this girl’s got guts! Talking to Secretary Warner like that–does she have a death wish?”
“Most people would run from Mr. Grayson’s car, and she actually hit it. That takes some nerve.”
“Talk about bad luck–of all people to mess with, she picked Secretary Warner, Mr. Grayson’s right–hand woman!”
As the murmurs grew louder, this so–called Secretary Warner became even more smug.
“You little bitch, you dare insult me? Do you have a death wish?”
Faced with her threats, I remained unfazed–almost amused.
“Secretary Warner, is it? I suggest you watch your language. If you truly push me too far, not even your boss can handle the consequences.”
“Bullshit! Who the hell do you think you are? Stop with this bitch act!”
After hurling a few more insults, she apparently wasn’t satisfied. She rolled up her sleeves and lunged at me.
“What, New Yorkers resort to violence when they lose an argument?”
She swung at me several times but couldn’t even touch the edge of my clothing.
“Stop dodging, you little bitch!”
“I’ll call Mr. Grayson right now, just watch!”
Despite her repeated provocations, I didn’t retaliate.
Not because I feared her, but because before leaving my facility, my supervisor had emphasized:

“Your every action represents our organization. Avoid conflicts at all costs.”
Besides, fighting wasn’t my style.
Either I don’t strike at all, or it’s a finishing blow.
Warner mistook my silence for cowardice and lunged at me again with her fist raised.
At the critical moment, a thunderous voice came from behind us.
“STOP!”
