Chapter 10
A few months later, intense arguing could be heard from a basement in some residential area-
“Reed! You worthless piece of shit! Where’s today’s delivery money? If we don’t pay rent tomorrow, we’re getting kicked out!”
Sage, showing with pregnancy, had greasy hair plastered to her forehead. Her once–delicate face looked haggard and bitter from resentment and malnutrition.
She snatched Reed’s just removed, sweat–stinking delivery uniform and roughly searched through the pockets.
“Stop nagging!”
Reed irritably shoved her away and collapsed exhausted on the creaking broken sofa, the springs jabbing painfully into him.
“I ran around all day and got two fucking complaints! They docked half my pay! What’s left barely bought this shitty burger!” He pointed at two burgers on the table.
“You mean half your wages today only bought two crappy burgers?! I’m carrying your child! Can’t even afford any supplements!”
Sage shrieked, throwing the delivery uniform hard on the floor.
“This is all your fault! If you hadn’t pissed off that bitch Willa Lynn, how would we have ended up like this?! How would that psycho Sterling have destroyed us like this?! I can’t even afford a decent prenatal checkup now!”
“My fault?!” Reed suddenly stood up, his eyes bloodshot as he glared at Sage.
“If it wasn’t for you! If you hadn’t insisted on wearing that stupid ring! If you hadn’t thrown the ring in the river! If you hadn’t pushed her like some shrew! How would I have lost Willa! How would we have offended Sterling?! How would Harrison Corporation have gone bankrupt?! Sage, you’re the jinx! You and your thieving mother are both disasters!”
“You dare to insult my mom?! Reed! You heartless bitch! Now you think I’m dragging you down? This is YOUR baby in my belly!”
“Baby? Who fucking knows if it’s even mine!” Reed shouted in blind rage, years of suppressed resentment and life’s pressures making him completely lose it.
“You’re just an ugly, poor shrew now! I must have been blind back then! Giving up a real heiress like Willa for a fake one like you! She’s Mrs. Whitmore now! The Lynn Corporation heiress!”
“And you? You’re not even as good as your mom! At least she managed to steal some stuff–what did you steal? You stole a life of living in basements eating cheap burger with me!”
“Reed! I’ll KILL YOU!” Sage suddenly creamed and lunged at him, the two wrestling in the narrow, filthy basement.
Curses, cries, and the sound of things breaking mixed together, filled with the despair and tragedy of impoverished couples…
Meanwhile, at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
I wore a Pronovias wedding dress, my arm linked with my father Lincoln Lynn’s.
His eyes were slightly red as he gently patted my hand, his gaze full of relief.
At the end of the carpet, Sterling stood in a sharp formal suit.
He looked at me with gentle, focused eyes, filled with undisguised love and promise.
As I walked toward him step by step and placed my hand in his warm, steady palm, all the gloom and pain seemed to completely dissipate.

Chapter 10
Under the priest’s witness, amid the blessings of family and friends, Sterling placed the ring symbolizing eternity on my finger, leaned down, and pressed a solemn, passionate kiss to my lips.
“I love you, Willa Lynn…”
Applause rose like a tide.
In this moment, flowers bloomed in splendor, and time stood still in peace.
All the suffering had become merely the prologue to the past, while true happiness was just beginning to unfold.
Those who had once trampled me into the mud were now living the very lives they had once looked down upon.
And I–would finally stand in the sunlight, embracing the brilliant life that belonged to me.
