Chapter 1
The night before our wedding, while I was driving my hammered fiancé home from his bachelor party, he mistook me for my bestie.
“Ruby, don’t bring our kid to my wedding tomorrow. After all, I’m his father. We can’t let Aria find
out.”
Screech!!!
I stomped on the brakes, and Knox slammed into the seat back, jolting him half awake.
After he realized it was me, he froze for a second before slowly speaking:
“Since you heard everything, we’ll have to postpone the wedding for now. But don’t worry–Ruby doesn’t want to get married, but the baby’s mine, so I gotta step up.”
“She’s your best friend, so I’m sure you get how tough it’d be for her raising a kid alone. I’ll help her raise the kid until they start school, and after that, I’ll come back and marry you.”
I let out a bitter laugh: “…Sounds great. I’m cool with it.”
When we got home, he didn’t say a word–just grabbed his suitcase and walked out.
I wiped away my last tear and sat on the bed, staring into space.
That’s when my phone rang at the worst possible moment. My childhood friend’s voice was hoarse:
“Aria, do I still have a chance?”
I stayed quiet for a moment.
“OF COURSE.”
Looking around our apartment, decorated meticulously for tomorrow’s ceremony, I stared at the “Happy Wedding” balloons I’d worried were too small. Now they just seemed mockingly cruel.
In college, I’d pursued Knox for two years before he finally gave me a chance. We’d been together

for three years since then, and tomorrow was supposed to be the culmination of all my dreams.
Instead, I discovered he’d been sleeping with my best friend Ruby since three years ago. Their son
was already two years old.
This double betrayal–from both my best friend and fiancé–shattered everything I thought I knew.
I forced back tears threatening to spill, desperate to escape this suffocating space. Then my phone
rang again.
“Aria,” Knox’s voice commanded, “Ruby’s been busy with the kid and hasn’t eaten yet. I’m starving
too. Make some food and bring it over.”
He hung up before I could respond, as if I were some servant to be ordered around.
I smiled bitterly at the cruel irony.
For three years, I’d supported Ruby through her unwed pregnancy and helped raise her son as his
godmother.
I’d comforted her when she refused to discuss the father, feeling nothing but sympathy.
Never once did I imagine the man who abandoned her was sleeping beside me every night.
The most painful part? I used to think Ruby was naive. Turns out I was the fool all along.
Looking back, the signs were everywhere.
Ruby always dressed provocatively around Knox, creating “accidental” touches and playful
interactions.
Everything had been calculated, happening right under my nose.
Occasionally I’d feel jealous and ask Knox to maintain boundaries, but he’d dismiss my concerns:
“Ruby’s your best friend, and I’m your man. We’re the ones you should trust more than anyone else, don’t you think?”
His simple deflection always made me feel unreasonable.
God, I was stupid.

With that, I opened Uber Eats and deliberately ordered from the lowest–rated restaurant I could find.
When the food arrived, I carelessly dumped it into containers and headed out.
I wanted to see how the precious “Mr. Knox” was handling FATERHOOD.
Standing at Ruby’s doorstep, I felt strangely detached as I rang the bell.
Ruby answered wearing a tight skirt with unmistakable damp spots, her face flushed.
I immediately went cold.
Yet she acted completely normal, smiling sweetly and pulling me inside.
“Aria sweetie, have a seat. Knoxy just took the little one to wash up. You should’ve seen how much fun daddy and son were having together!”
Huh, “Knoxy“? Listen to how intimate she sounds! It’s ridiculous I never noticed before.
Daddy and son? She’s not even pretending anymore!
I sat down mechanically, feeling like a ghost in my own body.
Soon, Knox appeared carrying their son–the little boy I’d helped raise for two years as his godmother.
Instinctively, I smiled at the child.
3ut instead of running to me as usual, he pointed his tiny finger directly at me and said something hat made my blood freeze:
‘Homewrecker.”
