He realized he had never heard her complain about being overworked.

Now, she was gone, and his world felt like it was falling apart.

Without thinking, Javon stormed out of his office and headed straight to the project department on the 17th floor.
“Where is Jaelynn’s seat? Who approved her resignation?”
Jerome had never seen Javon so out of control. His voice tense, he replied, “Ms. Norton resigned on her first day in the project department.”

It was immaculate, with everything neatly organized and each item clearly labeled for the colleague it belonged to. Even the potted plant looked cared for.
Opening a drawer, he found her unused work ID and business cards from when she worked in the secretarial and project departments.
She discarded them all and was determined to be nothing but herself.
A suffocating wave of realization hit him.
Last night was the last time he saw her at the company.
He hadn’t realized that all the little habits he had taken for granted might have been the last.
Was Jaelynn really breaking up with him?

Without opening the envelope, he immediately drove to the bridal shop to pick up her wedding dress.
Javon had visited the shop with Jaelynn once before, but he couldn’t remember the route and had to rely on navigation the entire way.
