Javon didn’t want Jaelynn to move too far away, so he stepped forward, trying to take her hand.
The smell of smoke mixed with his breath, once familiar, now strangely foreign to her.
Jaelynn pulled back to keep out of his reach.
“There won’t be a wedding. It’s not a question of timing, but there simply won’t be one at all.”
She found the situation almost ironic.
All along, the desire to get married had been her idea alone.
Javon seemed to be standing on the sidelines, indifferent.
Whenever they argued, he’d throw out some vague promise of marriage just to calm her down.
But now, his words carried no weight for her.
Jaelynn’s calmness only seemed to irritate Javon, making him lose control.

“I’ve resigned from the company. And I’ve said we’re breaking up,” Jaelynn replied, her voice icy, refusing to explain further.
“Javon, there’s nothing left between us now.”
“Jaelynn, enough.”
He couldn’t stand her cold, detached demeanor, watching him like he was some kind of child.

With that, she didn’t even pass by Javon. She walked out through another backstage exit.
The most important jewelry exhibition was over.
Jaelynn grabbed the gift and headed straight to Cynthia’s home.
