Javon’s eyes stung as he watched her.
He looked at Jaelynn, feeling a mix of familiarity and strangeness.
When he first saw her as a child, he was struck by how beautiful she was.
She carried the manners of a wealthy girl but was never spoiled or stubborn.
He had liked her then, and he knew many others did too.
Therefore, he kept other men away, wanting her attention solely for himself. He always wanted to be her one and only choice.
He admitted it, when Jaelynn became his girlfriend, the envious stares of others fed his pride.
But now,
she wasn’t by his side.
Others could admire her beauty freely, and it felt like a betrayal. It was a sense that she was slipping away, becoming uncontrollable.
A long–forgotten sense of crisis surged in his chest.
His fists clenched tightly as he stared at her, possessiveness overflowing.
“Jael, how can you quit and leave me? I want you back!”
Meanwhile, after the display segment ended, Jaelynn watched Cynthia being interviewed by reporters.
In the audience, a man in a suit observed quietly. It was Jett Spencer, the assistant to the president of the Calhoun Group.
He snapped a photo of Jaelynn and Wishing Girl on stage and sent it along.
“Mr. Calhoun, today’s exhibition went smoothly.”
On the other end, the smile that spread across the recipient’s face was a secret known to no one,

When the exhibition concluded successfully, Jaelynn personally saw Cynthia off and then returned to remind her team members to handle the most critical security matters.
“Mr. Bradford.”
Hearing the voice behind her, Jaelynn turned, slightly surprised.
“Why are you resigning? Are you trying to get back at me by doing this in secret?”
Hearing that familiar, dissatisfied tone, she stayed calm.
“My resignation followed the proper procedure.”
“I didn’t approve it.”
Javon finally pushed through the crowd, standing in front of her, eyes blazing with emotions he couldn’t control
He continued, “Fine. If you think returning to the secretarial department is wrong, just tell me what you want. I’ll give it to you.”
He reached for her wrist, signaling he was giving in to her.
Jaelynn stepped back smoothly.
His hand caught only empty air.
A tightening in his chest betrayed his unease.
He asked, incredulous, his voice rising with frustration, “Jael, what are you really thinking? You resigned to protest, and now you just want to be
stubborn?
“What I want is to resign. It’s my choice, and I don’t need to explain myself to anyone.”
Jaelynn’s gaze met his, calm and unwavering
