Chapter 4
This statement only made me laugh.[]
The Stone family’s idea of “spoiling and indulging” me was nothing more than treating me like a free maid.[]
So I ignored her and headed upstairs to my room.]
Closing the door behind me, I began packing my belongings.]]
Everything I could take from this house fit into one small suitcase, mostly work documents and notes.
Copies of every contract I’d secured for the Stone family over three years, plus hundreds of pages of market analysis I’d written myself.
These should have been my achievements.]]
Now they were just golden nameplates plastered on the Stone family’s reputation.[]
I heard light footsteps outside the door.]]
Without looking back, I recognized Iris’s footsteps by sound alone.]
When she pushed open the door, that annoying smirk was still on her face. She walked over in her high heels, crossed her arms, and looked down at me.[]
“You’re really leaving? Vera, I thought you’d cry and beg to stay in our house!“]
I looked up at her with my uninjured eye.
“Don’t worry, I won’t cry.“]]
My tone was as flat as discussing the weather.[]
“Just remember – everything you do will have consequences eventually.“[]
Iris scoffed:
“Threatening me? You think you’re still Mrs. Stone? Vera, don’t forget – once you leave the Stone family, you’re nothing!“[]
She spat out that last sentence through gritted teeth.]
I didn’t argue, just placed documents in my suitcase:[]
“We’ll see.“]]
My calm seemed to irritate her. She stepped forward and kicked over a stack of documents by my feet.[]
Papers scattered across the floor as she stepped on them.]]
There 4
“Taking this trash with you?”
1 ignored her, quietly collecting the papers she hadn’t stepped on.[]
This made her more frantic – she stomped on whatever I reached for.[]
But while switching feet, she lost her balance and fell, her face hitting a sharp corner of the furniture and creating a huge gash that immediately bled profusely.[]
I watched this karma coldly, feeling nothing, and continued packing.[]
Just then, Old Mrs. Stone burst in. []
Iris immediately screamed.]]
“Mom! I was kindly helping her pack, but this bitch tried to kill me!“]
Without thinking. Oid Mrs. Stone rushed forward and slapped my face.
My severely injured eye bled even more heavily, spattering Old Mrs. Stone’s face, but she acted like she couldn’t see it and raged at me.
“Vera, the Stone family door isn’t somewhere you can enter or leave at will! Staying here is your blessing – you should work like a slave to repay us! You’re just as low as your debt–ridden mother!“]
“We won’t stop you from leaving, but the storms outside aren’t something a woman like you can handle!“]]
I looked straight into her eyes:]
“Old Mrs. Stone, the storms in the Stone house are worse than outside. Keep that blessing for yourself!“[]
“The contract is over. I don’t need to shield you, your son, or your daughter from storms anymore.“]
Old Mrs. Stone’s face instantly turned vicious, her gaze sharp and ruthless:
“You’ll regret this.”
The sound of my suitcase zipper was especially clear in the silent air.[]
‘Whether I regret it or not is my business.“]
When I dragged my suitcase downstairs, Leo stood in the entryway.]
Seeing me, he frowned deeply.]
Vera, you’ve lived with the Stone family so long, and we do have feelings for each other. Besides, you have no family left in his world – where could you possibly go…“]
stopped, my knuckles turning white as I gripped the suitcase handle.]
f they hadn’t deliberately delayed paying for treatment, causing my mother to miss her best treatment window, I wouldn’t be alone in this world now.[]
From Matta Mistress to Billionaire’s Wife Same Day, Different Groom
Chapter 4
I stared at him with my one good eye, unable to stop blood from streaming down my check like bloody tears.[]
“You destroyed my company and used my mother’s illness to blackmail me into returning to the Stone family.“]
“I spent three years repaying my mother’s debts to you. Now we’re even.“[]
“Leo, it’s time you let me leave.“[]
Seeing my determination, Leo’s expression changed drastically, hatred and anger naked on his face.]
“Vera! If you really leave, never come back!“]
I walked past him, dropping one cold sentence:]
“Don’t worry, Mr. Stone. Once I leave, I won’t look back.“[]
The wind outside was cold, and night fell like a giant curtain, separating the Stone family’s lights behind me.[]
I took a deep breath and walked down the steps with my suitcase.]
Behind me, Leo couldn’t help rushing out.[]
“Vera! Remember this! Once you leave the Stone family, you’re nothing!“]]
Then Iris’s voice followed.]]
“Leo! What are you doing? She’s just a blind cripple – why bother keeping her around!“]
I didn’t turn around.]
Just smiled coldly.[]
Then I looked down at the suitcase in my hand and thought quietly.[]
Leo, Iris – your idea of “nothing” will soon become what your family fears most.]
The Stone family’s nightmare will be ME, Vera Hart.]
Under the streetlights, my shadow stretched long.[]
I walked this path with absolute determination, absolutely slowly.
Three years of shackles finally broke free tonight.[]
I felt unprecedented freedom.]
But just then, I heard a shout from behind.[]
“Vera!“]]
