Chapter 4
Frost’s mind went blank with a buzzing sound, thoughts completely frozen. She didn’t want to imagine what entering a hotel room meant.]
A sliver of hope remained–maybe he was just escorting Rayna to her room?]
She approached the door, until she heard through the thin barrier–breathless sounds and intimate noises from the entryway. That last hope vanished.]
Frost didn’t burst in. She was pathetic enough already–she wouldn’t make it worse.
Covering her mouth to stifle her sobs, she stumbled out of the hotel.
That night, Frost sat on the sofa staring out the window until dawn.[]
Her mind kept conjuring what might have happened in that room, pain beyond words.[]
Callan didn’t return until the next day, clothes wrinkled beyond recognition, stained with unknown fluids, reeking of Rayna’s perfume.
Frost’s eyes were bloodshot from sleeplessness as she looked at him: “You slept with Rayna Mills last night.“]]
Callan paused while loosening his tie, then spoke: “I’m sorry. What I did was wrong, but she’d been drugged with something strong last night. Only I could help her…”
“But you still slept together. Do you remember you have a fiancée?” She stood, approaching him with a trembling voice, barely
in control
Callan hadn’t slept all night, his head aching, patience worn thin: “I said I was just helping, and it was only once. Don’t overthink it. I’ll definitely marry you–the wedding’s soon. Stop making a scene.“[]
He turned and left, as if avoiding her unreasonable tantrum.[]
As the door slammed shut, Frost collapsed helplessly, tears falling uncontrolled, but she laughed.[]
She found herself ridiculous–knowing Callan felt only duty toward her, what was she still hoping for?]
After sitting motionless for who knows how long, Frost dragged herself to bed like a walking corpse.
Callan woke her by pulling her roughly, dragging her to the car despite her struggles.[]
“Callan Reid, what are you doing!“]
He drove frantically, voice darkly furious: “You ask what I’m doing? I told you to stop making scenes. Why did you take those compromising photos to threaten Rayna?!“[]
Frost was bewildered: “I didn’t do that.“]
“If not you, then who? This afternoon Rayna left her resignation letter and went to the rooftop. If anything happens to her, I won’t forgive you.” His voice dripped with hatred, as if he truly despised her completely.[]

Chapter 4
They quickly reached the hospital. He dragged her up to the rooftop, where Rayna was on the ledge.[]
Curious onlookers were blocked downstairs–only the three of them on the roof.]
Callan looked at Rayna nervously, voice gentle: “Rayna, I brought her. She’ll promise not to release the photos. Come down, please–it’s dangerous up there.“]
Without giving Frost a chance to explain, he’d already decided she was guilty. Her heart felt pierced by countless needles as she said coldly: “I told you it wasn’t me.“[]
ww
Rayna Mills stood up, eyes filled with perfect anguish: “Dr. Reid, if those photos get out, I’ll be ruined. What’s the point of living?”
Callan panicked, pulling Frost closer, his voice shaking: “Rayna, don’t be impulsive. I won’t let the photos leak…“]
He soothed her while approaching slowly, until only two steps remained.]
When Rayna relaxed her guard, he released Frost and pulled Rayna safely onto the rooftop, but Frost was knocked off balance and fell straight from the fourth floor.
Everything seemed in slow motion–Callan frantically holding Rayna in his arms, the image searing into her eyes.]
The sensation of falling was overwhelming. She looked up at the azure sky and closed her eyes in despair.]
The pain was more intense than expected–she passed out before tears could even fall.[]
