Chapter 13
Hearing this, Matthew felt like he’d been struck by lightning.
He could never have imagined that the woman he had cherished for seven years was such a venomous viper.[]
The pregnancy, the birth, the kidnapping, the affection–it was all fake. It was all a lie.
Even Joseph…
The boy he’d spent three days at an amusement park with, the boy he had traded his own daughter for… wasn’t even his son.
The blood in Matthew’s veins felt like it had frozen solid, only to boil over a second later. He wanted to kick down the door and tear the two of them apart.
But he forced himself to stop.]
Confronting them now would be letting them off too easy.]
Matthew slipped out of the villa silently, his face a thundercloud, and drove straight to the office.
“Lucas, get the legal department on it. I want a full investigation into Monica Moore’s entire history.” He threw his jacket onto the sofa. “Everything she’s ever done to Sophie. I don’t want a single detail missed.“[]
In less than half a day, Lucas rushed in with a thick stack of files.[]
“Mr. Wilson, it’s all here.“]
Matthew’s fingers trembled as he opened the file. The further he read, the colder his eyes became.[]
Inside were not only intimate photos of Monica and her kidnapper lover, but also countless sordid transaction records.
Most glaringly, a bank statement showed a five–million–dollar transfer she made to her lover right after the “kidnapping“]
So, from the very beginning, all this woman had ever wanted was his money.]
Fine. He would make her understand what it felt like to be trapped by money, to wish for death.[]
That evening. Monica’s call came right on schedule. “Matthew, are you busy? Joseph and I miss you so much…“]
Matthew sneered inwardly, but his voice was as calm and gentle as ever.
“Just finished up. What were you doing this afternoon? I called a few times but you didn’t pick up. Did you see my text?“]
Monica coughed guiltly. “I was at a movie with Joseph this afternoon. My phone died.“[]
She paused, her voice laced with feigned hurt, “Matthew, that text…. about getting a divorce… were you serious?”
“Just pretend you never saw it.”
Matthew chuckled lightly, then changed the subject. “I have to go out of town for a few days to negotiate a deal. If it goes through, it could be worth a billion. You stay here and take good care of Joseph until I get back.“[
Her breathing on the other end of the line quickened noticeably. “Really? That’s wonderful! You work so hard, Matthew Joseph and I will be waiting for you!“]
“Oh, and Matthew,” Monica added quickly, her voice dripping with an uncharacteristic sincerity, “I want you to know, it’s always been you I love, not anything else.”
“Even… even if you really wanted a divorce, I would still love you..“]]
Matthew laughed coldly to himself
She loves me for me? What a joke
How blind had he been to fall for such sweet talking lies?
He hung up the phone, his eyes as cold as a frozen lake in winter.
to bite.]
The bait was set. Now, he just had to wait for the fish to
Over the next few days, Matthew had his men frantically searching for Sophie, while he periodically fed Monica news that the “project” was progressing smoothly.
Monica took the bait. She not only made frequent transfers to her lover but also bought tens of millions in commercial Insurance for Joseph, already acting as if she were the future mistress of the Wilson fortune.
At the office, she began to act like the boss’s wife, ordering everyone around. Plenty of sycophantic colleagues were quick to kiss up to her.[]
One day, a massive package arrived by courier.
Monica signed for it. Inside was a new purple gown from a top designer, the price tag a staggering six figures.[]
“Ms. Moore, have you seen the company bulletin? It says Mr. Wilson is hosting a celebration gala and will be bringing an important female guest“]
“This gown must have been custom–made for you! Mr. Wilson is so thoughtful“]
Two female colleagues gushed, their eyes filled with envy.[]
Monica smiled smugly. “Oh, don’t be silly.”
She said the words, but inside, she was ecstatic.
Matthew was finally going to publicly acknowledge her at the gala
She took the gown to the fitting room. After putting it on, she admired herself in the mirror, grinning from ear to ear
That right, Matthew returned from his “business trip” and went straight to the villa.[]
Monica greeted him with a beaming smile. “Matthew, you’re back! You must be exhausted from your trip.“]
Matthew smiled faintly. “It was fine. Did you try on the gown I sent? Does it fit?”]]
“It fits perfectly!” Monica nodded excitedly. “You have such good taste, Matthew.”
Later that night, she changed into a sexy nightgown and draped herself over him. She had a plan: it was her ovulation period. If she could just get pregnant one more time. Matthew’s fortune would be all hers.]
But Matthew pushed her away, his expression blank. “I’m too tired from the trip. Some other time.”
Monica froze.
After all, he had never refused her before.]]
But the thought of the glamorous life awaiting her after the gala made this small rejection seem insignificant.[]
The next morning. Monica dressed meticulously, put on the purple gown, and, arm in arm with Matthew, headed to a country estate.]
Pushing open the magnificent doors to the grand hall, she walked proudly beside Matthew to the center of the stage, basking in the envious and curious gazes of the crowd
“Today is an important day,” Matthew said into the microphone, his eyes scanning the room. “The woman by my side is my capable assistant, Monica Moore.
“The success of this project is thanks in no small part to her years of companionship.“]
As he spoke, he slid a diamond bracelet onto her wrist, his voice gentle: “This is a gift to celebrate your success.“]
Monica’s fingertips trembled with excitement, a grin stretching from ear to ear.
“And now, I’d like to present a video showcasing Ms. Moore’s ‘contributions to the Wilson Group over the years.”
The hall erupted in thunderous applause.]]
Monica held her head high, feeling like the most dazzling queen in the room.]
But in the next second, the screen lit up, and a series of obscene moans echoed through the grand hall.
