Chapter 12
As she spoke, her hand was already sliding under Matthew’s shirt.
Matthew immediately understood her insinuation, and any flicker of desire he might have felt vanished instantly.[]
“Don’t even think about it!” He pushed her away, his voice cold as ice. “Joseph’s birth was an accident. Don’t get any other ideas.”
Monica’s face paled, and she quickly withdrew her hand. “I wasn’t. It was Joseph’s idea. I’ll do whatever you say.“[]
“He shouldn’t be having those thoughts either.“[]
Matthew shot her a look of undisguised disgust.[]
“Joseph’s birthday is over. As soon as his school registration is finalized, we’re getting a divorce.“]
The words nailed Monica to the spot
“Matthew
She threw herself at him, her eyes red, clinging to his arm.
“We can’t get a divorcel Joseph is so young! How can you stand to let him grow up without a father?“]
Matthew sneered, shaking her off. “My daughter needs to be registered too. She needs to go to school.”
“Monica, I’ll give you and your son a generous settlement. You can relocate somewhere else.” He buttoned his shirt, adding coldly, “And after that, you will never show your faces in front of us again.“[]
With that, he grabbed his jacket and slammed the door behind him, completely missing the venomous glare she shot at his
back.
“Damn it… if only that bitch and her brat would just diel“]

Back in his own empty house, Matthew was seething with irritation.
He called his assistant. Lucas. “I want to know Sophie Harris’s whereabouts. You have five minutes.“[]
That woman was so infuriatingly stubborn.]
What was she thinking, wandering around with a newborn?]
But five minutes turned into ten, then fifteen, and all Lucas could say was, “Still looking, sir.“[]
Matthew muttered “useless” under his breath and threw his phone onto the sofa.]
On second thought, he realized Sophie had always been so gentle, never one for petty games. For her to react this strongly, she
must be truly furious.
The image of her, eyes red with anger, sent a strange, unexpected thrill through him.
She cared this much… that had to be because she loved him, right?||
A small smile touched Matthew’s lips. He decided he would be the bigger person, give her a way to back down.[]
The next morning, he sent Monica a text: [Bring your ID and the marriage certificate. Meet me at the city registry in half an hour.J
He would finalize things with Monica, register his daughter as quickly as possible, and then Sophie would surely calm down.
But there was no reply. He tried calling, but was met with a cold, robotic voice: “The number you have dialed has been switched off.“]
Matthew frowned.]
Monica always answered his calls immediately. She would never dare to turn off her phone.]]
A suspicion pricked him. He opened his banking app, checked the transactions on the supplementary card, and his eyes widened.
Monica’s card… in just three months, she had charged over ten million.
Her usual spending was modest. What could she possibly need that much money for?
A powerful wave of unease washed over Matthew. He sped toward the villa.||
He pushed open the door and saw a trail of men’s and women’s clothing scattered from the entryway toward the bedroom, a glaring, messy path.]
As he approached the half–open bedroom door, a series of obscene moans and gasps seeped through the crack, like needles in his ears.
Peering through the gap, he saw a tangle of pale limbs writhing on the large bed
And the man’s voice… Matthew recognized it instantly
It was the leader of the men who had “kidnapped” Joseph.[]
“Monica, it’s been a while. Miss me?”
The man’s voice was slick with a lewd chuckle.[]
Monica, flushed and panting, replied, “You’re so much better… Matthew’s been useless for ages. Being with him is so boring, no excitement at all“]
“After we get one more big score from him, we’ll leave,” the man grunted. “Then the three of us can live the good life.“]
“What’s the hurry?” Monica cackled. “The fool is still in the dark. He thinks Joseph is his kid, treats him like a prince.“]
“Once I’ve secured my
position. I’ll
I’ll play nice again, get him to trans
transfer all his company s
shares to me at
“Matthew’s not an idiot. You think that’ll actually work?‘
“Why not?” Monica laughed even harder. “He never even figured out we staged the kidnapping. He drove his precious wife away for me! Hahaha..“||
