Chapter 9 The Great Team
Philip hadn’t changed one bit from how he was before.
He always looked out for Evelyn in the smallest ways.
Even with the February sun just starting to peek through, he still worried about her getting burned.
That kind of thoughtfulness made her feel warm inside.
They moved to a shady spot beneath a tree.
The edge of the training ground had a row of sycamore trees that had been there for years.

Now, they were strong and tall, and their thick leaves cast dappled shadows on the ground, cooling the space around them.
Evelyn opened her hand and held out the medal to him.
Her palm was sweaty–maybe from gripping it too tightly or just nerves.
The medal was slick with it.
I’m returning this to its owner,” she said.
Then, she winked at Philip. “I know what you were trying to do. Do I get a reward?”
She had figured it out.
He could’ve just left his student ID like everyone else did.
Back in 1983, technology wasn’t advanced enough for people to easily fake student IDs.
So, the owner could track someone down if they didn’t return the lunch boxes.
But Philip didn’t go that route. He left his precious medal instead.
The reason? He wanted Evelyn to find him again.
She could’ve had someone else return a student ID, but not a medal.
If she lost it, she couldn’t replace it.
Philip smiled warmly, his face lighting up. “Want a free meal as a thank–you?”
No way!
She wasn’t going to use the same trick.
“Take me to the shooting range after you’re done training,” she said.
She wanted to try out real guns. It sounded awesome.
Philip didn’t refuse and nodded. “Alright. Where should I meet you at eight?”
“I’ll be-”
Before she could finish, yelling broke out on the track.
“Boss! Quade just passed out!”
Everyone turned to see Quade Lambert on the ground, his body shaking slightly.
They were all military students and used to messing around. But when things got serious, they froze up.
When no one knew what to do, they went to Philip.

Tenght back be sad to Evelyn and dashed toward the training ground.
Evelyn didn’t waste a second and ran after him.
Noting the surprise on his face, she quickly said. Tm a med student. I might be able to help. Don’t think too much. Let’s
go
At such a moment, someone with medical knowledge was a huge help.
Philip didn’t argue. He just picked up speed.
Once they got there, Evelyn pushed through the crowd to give Quade some air, then started checking his pulse and pupils.
She hadn’t been a doctor in her previous life, but her volunteer work at nursing homes and orphanages had taught her a lot.
Secang Quades muscles botching, she started rubbing his legs
Is v. epilepsy” Quincy Lambert asked nervously.
They were just about to begin their military internship. If Quade had epilepsy, he’d be disqualified, and everything he worked for over the past four years would go to waste.
“Cut it out with that nonsense” Philip snapped, his tone sharp
He squared to help massage Quade’s other leg. Lowering his voice, he asked. “Is what Quincy said true?”
He was worried as well.
Picking up on his tension helyn looked up and gave him a calm smile. “Nope, not epilepsy. That usually messes with the brain, causes full–body shaxing, and sometimes even foaming at the mouth. But look–only his legs are jerking, and his muscles are stiff. This is just a bad cramp.”
Philip watched closely,
Sure enough, under the uniform. Quade’s legs were tight and rigid. It was a classic muscle cramp.
‘Let’s get him over to the infirmary so he can rest
Quincy immediately said, “Tll carry him!”
He offered right away, but Philip wasn’t exactly reassured.
The military students weren’t light, and he worried Quincy might not manage, so he stayed close in case he needed to step in.
Evelyn naturally went along.
At the infirmary, the campus doctor gave Quade a check–up and confirmed what Evelyn had already said.
It was just a cramp from overworking his body and not getting enough calcium, which led to him passing out.
It was nothing serious.
Quincy finally breathed a sigh of relief, patting his chest in lingering fear.
They were mid–run when he gave Quade a playful elbow to the chest, and that was when Quade collapsed
The whole thing scared him to death.
Tears started running down his face. “If something happened to Quade, his mom would be chasing me through the village
with a knife”
Quincy and Quade were from the same village, part of the Lamberts. Back there, they were named based on their birth
order
Even after coming to campus, that naming habit stuck around.
Chapter 9 The Great Team.
Eventually, people just got used to calling them Quade and Quincy.
A guy in uniform wiping his tears was quite a sight.
Evelyn bit her lip, trying not to laugh.

Quincy noticed and looked a little sheepish as he sniffled. “Boss Lady, I’m just feeling a little emotional. I’m still manly, though. Don’t laugh at me.”
I’m not, Evelyn said seriously, shaking her head.
Then, she paused, realizing something was wrong with his words.
Wait–Boss Lady? I’m not even dating Philip yet!
She felt awkward and thought about clearing things up, but Quincy jumped in first. “Boss Lady, you were incredible when you helped Quade earlier. I still can’t believe what I saw. You and Boss will make such a great team. Everyone at base is gonna be jealous.”
Evelyn’s thoughts drifted Tle when she heard that.
Maybe becoming a military doct would be a good idea.
Since her rebirth, she’d been caught up in Alice and everything else. She hadn’t considered her internship.
In her previous life, her professor had planned to send her to a hospital in Southville. But Alice ended up stealing that spot.
Honestly, the hospital didn’t matter. It would be perfect if she could be closer to Philip.
She made up her mind.
As soon as Quade regained consciousness, she waved Philip goodbye and prepared to look for her professor to discuss her thoughts.
Philip stood up as well with an unchanged expression. “Where are you headed? I’ll go with you.”
“No, it’s okay. I’m just going to the professor’s office. It’s not far.” She didn’t want to bother him.
But Quincy grinned and winked at her. “Come on, Boss Lady! Let Boss show off a little! It’s only right for him to walk his girl
