Chapter 5
In the hierarchy of the beastfolk, only three clans reigned supreme, namely the dragons, lions, and wolves.
The fox clan was the lowest of the low, and any half–beast born with a fox tail was considered of the weakest lineage.
Suffocating silence fell over the birthing chamber as everyone exchanged glances. No one dared say a single word.

They’d expected the lions to finally dominate the beastfolk for once, but now, the mighty lion clan leader had been cuckolded. The air buzzed with barely contained laughter as everyone looked forward to the unfolding drama.
Kael’s face was ashen as he emanated stormy rage. “Arya, who did you crawl into bed with? If you don’t tell me the truth right now, I’ll snap its neck myself!”
Father broke out in cold sweat: As much as he was disappointed in Arya, she was still his favorite daughter.
So, be braced himself to say, “Calm down, Kael. There might be a misunder.
Arya adores you, so why would she ever
cheat on you?”
With Father speaking up on her behalf, Arya steadied her trembling breath and mustered the courage to say, “He is your son. Half–beasts with fox tails aren’t unheard of, and look at his eyes; they’re just like yours!”
She pointed at the cub’s tightly shut eyelids and desperately tried convincing Kael to accept it.
Kael’s eyes burned red with fury, and he was trembling all over as he fought to hold himself back.
“You think I’m a fool?” he snarled.

air, more than enough to kill a newborn cub.
Arya’s eyes narrowed in alarm as her instincts took over, and she pulled the baby tightly against her chest.
“No!” Father screamed.
