The great oak tree…
That was indeed where we had first met, six years ago on a full moon night.
If you don’t see me, Rocco’s voice turned threatening, I’ll stay right here until your patrols execute me as a Rogue!
I could hear the madness in his tone.
In his current state, he was capable of anything.
“Caterina, who are you mind–linking?” Damon’s voice pulled me back to reality.
He stood in front of me, his eyes full of clear concern.
As an Alpha, his instincts told him something was wrong.
“It’s my ex–mate,” I said truthfully. “He’s… at our territory’s border.”
Damon’s expression instantly turned serious.
“What does he want?”
I gave Rocco my final response in the mind–link: “Suit yourself.”
Then, I severed the connection completely.
Turning back to Damon, his face looked exceptionally grim under the moonlight.
“He wants to see me. I refused.”
“And now he’s…?”
“Threatening to wait at the border until our patrols find him,” I said calmly. “As an unauthorized Alpha on our territory, he’ll be treated as a Rogue.”
Damon watched me silently, as if assessing the severity of the situation.
“And if he dies here,” Damon asked quietly, “will you regret it?”
2/3
“No,” I answered without hesitation. “That would be his own choice.”
Damon nodded. “Then let’s continue our walk,” he said, offering his arm. “Don’t let someone insignificant ruin this beautiful
evening.”
I took his arm, but my heart hadn’t settled. Would Rocco really die out there? What if he did?
“Caterina,” Damon murmured, his voice a low rumble beside my ear. “Don’t waste a single thought on a male who isn’t worth
it.”
His words had a magical effect, gradually calming the storm inside me.
Yes, Rocco was no longer worth my worry.
But just then, the sound of the patrol’s alarm echoed from the distance.
It seemed they had found Rocco.
