Dominic:
The room was quieter than I expected. No tension. No bitterness. Just the soft, rhythmic sound of Isla’s breathing and the occasional
rustle of fabric as Eloise shifted slightly, adjusting her hold on our daughter.
I would have expected the nurses to come back, but I was surprised when neither one of them did. It was as if they were giving us our privacy and they had to admit. For a few moments I found myself appreciating that.
I sat back, watching them, my arms resting on my thighs as I tried to process everything.
It was very peaceful, the day and the way things went, everything about it was very peaceful.

Eloise was tracing gentle circles over Isla’s cheek, her touch featherlight, her expression softer than I had ever seen. There was something about the way she looked at our daughter, like she was her entire world, like nothing else existed. Something inside me stirred and I didn’t know what it was, but either way, I knew that there was not a feeling
I clenched my jaw, forcing myself to look away.
The familiarity of this scene, of her, of us, unnerved me.

I wasn’t supposed to feel this way. Not after everything. Not after the long period of time that the two of us have been away another.

Eloise had been a mistake. A fleeting indulgence I had allowed myself once. Yet, as I sat there, watching her hold the one thing that tied us together forever, I found myself questioning that belief.
“You’re staring,” Eloise murmured, not looking up. “And you are lost in thoughts.”
I blinked, realizing I had been caught. “No, I’m not.”
She let out a soft laugh, shaking her head. “You are.”
“You speak as if you know me too well.” I said and just looked upon me, raising an eyebrow.
“I believe that I’m the only person who might know you well enough, who might know who you are hidden under the shade and under the cover of being an alpha. But we don’t talk about that, do we?” She asked sarcastically. I looked at her, blinking twice as I was surprised by her answer. And I realized all too quickly that she was waiting for an
answer.
I scoffed but didn’t argue. Instead, I shifted in my seat, leaning back against the headboard. “She looks like you.” Eloise finally glanced up, amusement flickering in her tired eyes. “You think so? They say that a girl has many faces when it comes to changing. Especially in the early stages when they grow up.”
“I’m sure that she’s going to be growing older and changing, but I believe that she’s going to look a lot like you.” I nodded, my gaze drifting back to Isla’s delicate features. “She’s got your nose. And your stubborn little frown. The same frown that’s going to drive me

crazy once I see her growing older or when she hits her early teens.”
Eloise smiled, running her fingers through Isla’s fine, dark hair. “She has your eyes, though. I’m sure that she’s not going to bother you
so much. She’s not going to give you a hard time. And even if she does, it’s not like you didn’t give the alpha and Luna a hard time
before.”
I tensed at that. It was true. I had to fight back laughing at her statement. But deep down, I was lost in something else. She did indeed
have my eyes. The same deep green that reflected back at me in the mirror every day now belonged to the small, fragile creature in her
arms.
It did something to me. Something I wasn’t sure I liked.
We fell into a comfortable silence after that, neither of us willing to break the moment. It was… nice, in a way I couldn’t quite place.
Eloise yawned, shifting again, her exhaustion evident. And I knew that she’s been doing it for a while now. She needed to rest. She had
to allow her body, the break for her to be able to stand strong.
“You should rest,” I said, standing before I could think better of it. “Your body needs to recover still and you’re still going through
postpartum.”
“I didn’t really expect you to care about me going through postpartum.” She blinked up at me, surprised by my sudden movement.
“You need to rest, Eloise.” I said, taking a step towards her.
“I’m fine.”
I arched a brow. “Liar.”
Eloise rolled her eyes but didn’t argue.
I reached for Isla, carefully taking her from Eloise’s arms. She stiffened at first, but when she saw how gently I cradled her, she relaxed.
“I’ll put her back in the crib,” I said, my voice lower than before. “She doesn’t need to go back to the incubator, she can sleep by her
side and if anyone asks, she’s here by her mother. There are nurses everywhere anyway and they’re going to be able to take care of her.
We just need to find a proper maid for her, one that we can trust when you want to take care of your own things.”
“You know that I don’t need a maid around. I can take care of my daughter myself.” She said stubbornly. I rolled my eyes before
looking down at my daughter.
“And then you go on ahead and wonder why I say that your daughter has your same stubborn manner.” I said, teasing her. “This is not
out for question. You need someone to help you out. You’re not going to be able to do everything on your own. I’m going to be here to
help, but sometimes a maid is going to help you with a lot of things that are going to be a little more difficult for you to maintain on
your own.”
Eloise watched me for a moment, something unreadable in her eyes, before nodding. “Okay.”
I walked to the small crib set up beside the bed, lowering Isla down with as much care as I could manage. Her tiny fingers twitched,
her little mouth parting slightly in sleep, but she didn’t wake.

Eloise shifted under the covers, adjusting herself against the pillows. “Dominic?”
I turned.

She hesitated, then shook her head. “Never mind.”
I frowned but didn’t press. Whatever it was that you wanted to tell me, I had a feeling deep down that I believed that it would be better
for me not to hear it out. If I did, then things were going to be a little more complicated for me. I wouldn’t be able to just ignore the
clutch that I had in my chest.
I walked toward the door, gripping the handle before pausing.
That feeling, the one I had been ignoring since I walked into the room, pressed against my chest, demanding to be acknowledged.
I pushed it down.
Buried it.
This changed nothing.
“Get some sleep,” I muttered before stepping out and closing the door behind me. “Your body needs it.”
Eloise:
The halls of the packhouse were eerily silent. Each step I took echoed softly against the polished floors, reminding me that for the first
time in weeks, I was outside my room, moving on my own.
And though I knew that deep down, a feeding told me that I shouldn’t be roaming around as easily as I was, my body still needed a
brick. And I also knew that the park was not an exactly safe place for me. This was not a place where I was entirely wanted and I knew
that my presence here was still something that most of the pack dreaded. Me and Omega being the mother of the alphas only heir.
But I needed this. The feeling of my legs carrying me forward, the slight burn in my muscles from being still for too long, it was the
closest I’d felt to freedom in a while. A freedom that I did not value until I found myself losing it. Though technically I did not lose it, I
just found myself being misguided towards it. I found myself being pulled away from it.
It Ivana had encouraged me to try and get my strength back, and a short walk around the house seemed like a good start. She was the
one person who I knew was genuinely very kind to me, her and Alpha Thorne.
She had been the mother that he did not have, even after I had given birth to my girl. That was something that was more than just a
little thankful for. That was something that I was never going to forget.
For a few minutes, it was peaceful.
For a few moments, no one disturbed me. A few of the pack members passed me. Some of them nodded, others smiled. I was
surprised. I did not expect such behaviors from them. I expected them to be resenting me.
Then I heard it.
Chapter 24
The sharp click of heels against the floor.
The heels that I knew would just ruin the peace that I believed I was going to be able to have roaming around the pack.
I barely had time to register the sound before a familiar voice sliced through the air.
“Well, well,” Lucy sneered, stepping into my path. “What do you think you’re doing roaming around as if you own the place?”
I stopped mid–step, my body going rigid as I looked up to meet her gaze.

Her icy blue eyes burned with fury, her posture tense, radiating barely contained rage. She was dressed to perfection, as always, her
flawless appearance a stark contrast to how I must have looked, exhausted, pale, and barely holding myself together.
I said nothing.

The last thing that I wanted was to end up arguing with her right now. I knew her place within the park,
said when it came to her, I knew that it was on matter of time before the two of them were going to make up again. It wasn’t like
the two of us had any potential being together anyway. He did not even want me around. If I was here, it was simply because of Isla.
Lucy took a slow step forward, crossing her arms. “You certainly look comfortable for someone who doesn’t belong here. Roaming
around as if you own the place. You do not answer the Luna when she speaks to you. I am curious, where are you getting your strength
from? Is it because of the girl? Do you really believe that a little girl can actually protect you from me?”

Her question caught me off guard and I knew that she was challenging me, hoping that I would be challenging her back, but I was not
going to give her that. I was not going to give her the satisfaction to get into my head.

“Walking,” she repeated, laughing humorlessly. “Of course. How convenient, considering Dominic was just with you. Considering that
he is with you almost all day long, every single day now, do you think that I don’t know about that? What are you doing to him? What
has him coming to you every single day without being bored? And don’t tell me that it is because of the girl. What are you doing to
him?”
Her words made my stomach tighten.
So that’s what this was about.
She had seen us. Or at least, heard about it.
I didn’t bother defending myself, there was no point. Dominic and I barely spoke, and yet somehow, that was enough to send Lucy into
a fit of jealousy.
“I don’t know what you think happened, but…”
Lucy cut me off with a sharp glare. “I think you’re exactly what I’ve always thought you were, a pathetic little nobody who doesn’t
understand her place. You just want to get your place in his heart. You think that by spending some time with him, he is going to
soften towards you. I have to tell you this, that is something that you are going to dream about and it is only going to happen over my

dead body.”
I exhaled slowly, willing myself to stay calm.
“I don’t want to fight with you, Lucy.” I said, looking down at my feet, avoiding her eyes for a moment. “This is not the time for us to be
arguing at all.”
She scoffed, taking another step forward, closing the space between us. “That’s because you know you’d lose. That’s because you
know that you are no match to me. You are nothing but an Omega, an outcast. Who the hell do you think you are to tell me that you
don’t want to get into an argument or a fight?”
My jaw tightened, but I held my ground.
T
“I already lost,” I said quietly, my Voice steady. “I lost my home. I lost my freedom. I lost everything the moment I found out I was
pregnant. But if you think I’m going to let you make me feel worse about it, you’re wasting your time. Now please get out of my way.”
Lucy’s lips curled into a mocking smile. “Please. Don’t act like you’re some tragic victim in all of this. You chose to spread your legs for
Dominic, and now you think you deserve some kind of sympathy? Do you really believe that he’s going to give you any of it? You don’t
deserve it. Who the hell do you think you are? I am surprised by the guts that you’re having.”
My blood boiled at her words, but before I could respond, another voice interrupted.
“Enough.”
Dominic.
His deep, authoritative voice cut through the tension like a blade, and I felt my entire body tense as I turned to see him standing at the
end of the hall.
His gaze flickered between us, his jaw clenched, his expression unreadable.
Lucy straightened, her anger momentarily shifting into something else, something more controlled.
“Dominic,” she greeted smoothly, as if she hadn’t just been spewing venom at me seconds ago.
Dominic’s eyes darkened. “I said enough. You are going to leave her alone, Lucy.”
Lucy looked like she wanted to argue, but she held her tongue, her lips pressing into a thin line. “I was only talking to her.”
“Then this conversation is over. You can leave.”
I stayed silent, my heart still racing from the confrontation. She froze, processing his words as if they were a slap in the face to her, as
if this was the last thing that she would have expected him to tell her.
Dominic exhaled sharply, pinching the bridge of his nose before turning his attention to Lucy. “I told you to leave. This is no place for
an argument.”
A flicker of pain crossed her face, but it was gone in an instant, replaced by pure rage.

“So, this is what you’re choosing?” she hissed, motioning toward me. “You’d rather have her than me? You are choosing to defend her
against me?”
Dominic’s expression hardened. “That’s not what this is about.”
“Then what is this about?” she snapped. “Because from where I’m standing, it looks like you’re protecting her. Again.”

Dominic didn’t answer.
Lucy let out a bitter laugh, shaking her head. “You’re pathetic.” She turned her gaze back to me, eyes full of disdain. “Enjoy your little
victory while it lasts, Omega.”
With that, she tumed on her heel and stormed off, leaving nothing but icy silence in her wake.
I let out a slow breath, willing my hands to stop shaking.
Dominic didn’t move for a long moment.
Then, finally, he looked at me.

His voice was softer than before, but there was something firm beneath it, something final.
I didn’t argue. I didn’t have the energy to.
I just nodded and tumed, walking away without another word.
