The moonlight, like woven silk, filled the silent car where Jax Ryder and I sat.
After a few seconds, he suddenly chuckled softly:
“Sister, aren’t you going to tell me something?”
I sighed softly: “I was wrong. When you acted that way at first, I thought this was an unspoken adult game.”
“But I also told you, we were just having fun-”
“I wasn’t talking about that.”

He abruptly cut me off.
“Why didn’t you ever tell me that you’re the owner of the team?”
I looked at him calmly:
“It would have been too much trouble if I had.”
He paused, as if suddenly understanding.
“That day we were photographed, after we trended, the manager came to me and said they were going to hold a press conference to deny the relationship–that was your idea,
wasn’t it?”
Jax Ryder leaned over, propping himself against the seat back behind me.
“Eve, do I seem so unacceptable in your eyes?”
The distance between us closed inch by inch. As our breaths mingled, the atmosphere
became extremely intimate.
But in the reflection of his eyes, I only saw my own calm, indifferent gaze.
“Because we weren’t in a relationship.”
“How I live my life, the path I take, was decided four years ago. I won’t disrupt my rhythm for you. As for why I didn’t tell you I own the club, it’s because this-”
I carefully chose a less harsh word.
“fling–after it ends, I hope it won’t affect your future work with the team.”
“Because ensuring I can achieve good results for the team and gain higher commercial value is also part of your career.”
His nose almost brushed mine. In the mingling breaths, I once again caught the crisp scent of blue eucalyptus on him.
