Jax Ryder left the next morning.
Before he did, I thought about it and couldn’t help but say:

He tilted his head, looking at me: “Aren’t you my girlfriend?”
“It was just for fun.”
“Oh.”
He nodded indifferently.
“Then you can only ‘have fun‘ with me, Sister.”

A grand business gala was held a few days later.
When I arrived, I immediately spotted Alex Thorne in the center, surrounded by a crowd,
practically worshipped.
And Chloe, intimately clinging to his arm.
Someone shouted, “Eve’s here.”
The lively atmosphere instantly chilled.
Everyone’s eyes, in unison, fell upon me.
A moment later, Alex suddenly sneered:
“Realized your little trick that night didn’t work, so you chased me all the way here?”
Chloe also laughed:
“Sister Eve, you’re really childish. If you want Alex to get jealous, at least try to be believable. Look in the mirror, no one would want you, even if you were throwing yourself at them.”
I suddenly understood.

That night, on the phone, Alex had indeed heard my voice.
But he was overly confident, thinking I was merely playing games, deliberately trying to make him jealous.
Someone beside him, a busybody, played a recording from four years ago, when I went to beg him to marry me.
“Alex Thorne, I’m Eve Cross from the Harding family. It’s okay if you don’t know me now, but in the future, if we get married, I can help you…”
That night, he had just left a private club with a few of his friends.
With a hint of drunkenness, he scrutinized me, teasingly:
“You’re an illegitimate bastard, what can you help me with?”
“Why don’t you just kneel down and say a few sweet words, beg me properly, and maybe I’ll actually agree.”
“Like… say you’ll be my most loyal dog.”
After a few seconds of silence, the clear sound of my knees hitting the floor came through the recording.
“As long as Mr. Thorne agrees to marry me, I will be your most loyal… dog.”
The people around him burst into laughter:
“Holy crap, she actually said it!!”
“An illegitimate daughter from that kind of place, only thinking of flying up the social ladder. What kind of backbone does she have?”
Alex, his arm around Chloe, raised an eyebrow.
His mocking expression was just as it had been four years ago.

“Using such ridiculous tactics to get my attention? You’d be better off just kneeling again
right here.”
Suddenly, almost everyone present had their eyes on me.
Their gazes filled with scrutiny and contempt.
An intense wave of shame washed over me, but then a girl not far away shrieked,
pointing at me:
“Her shoes! Aren’t they exactly like Jax Ryder’s girlfriend’s limited edition ones? Didn’t
they say those are impossible to buy anywhere now?”
Alex’s face instantly changed.
The next second, a cheer erupted at the entrance.
“Jax Ryder’s here!”
