Chapter 23
Ruby cleared her throat and spat in Christian’s direction.
“Ha, can’t answer? I’ll tell you where you were–you were accompanying your ex–girlfriend on cruise ships to view the ocean, accompanying her to bid on diamond jewelry she liked at Sotheby’s, accompanying her on world travels!”
Grace turned and left while curious guests peeked out from the rooftop.
Ruby didn’t care at all as she sneered at him coldly.
Looking at Christian’s trembling body, she felt sick to her stomach.
“Christian, your love amounts to nothing more than this.”
Christian stubbornly refused to leave.
Since he wasn’t welcome there, he stayed at a nearby inn, waiting every day for Natalie to come out.
But Natalie seemed deliberately avoiding him, always staying inside the bed–and–breakfast and refusing to emerge.
Until one day. Christian’s phone suddenly rang.
It was his father calling from Boston.
He clenched his jaw and answered.
“Christian, get back to Boston and clean up your mess!”
The call was immediately hung up.
Before Christian could figure out what was happening, his phone received a call from Boston police asking him to assist in an investigation.
Only then did Christian understand everything.
Natalie wasn’t hiding from him–she had already left for Boston while he wasn’t paying attention.
Her wrongful murder case had new evidence.
This time, she had submitted both witness testimony and physical evidence.
Authorities quickly uncovered the facts of the original case.
Across from Natalie’s house had always lived a very strange person.
He didn’t like socializing or going out, always hiding inside that house.
Curtains tightly drawn, seemingly indifferent to worldly affairs.
After imprisonment, Natalie belatedly realized something.
That day, the curtains of that house hadn’t been drawn.
They lived in an old residential area where houses weren’t far apart–he couldn’t have missed hearing or seeing what happened.
After prison, Natalie had been trying to contact him.

When she finally found Xavier Sterling, he refused to testify in court due to his fear of crowded scenes.
For so long, she’d been working on Xavier’s mindset.
Only recently had he agreed and given her decisive evidence.
When police came to the psychiatric hospital for Charlotte, she cried and begged them to take her away from this cage.
As soon as Christian got off the plane, he was taken away directly.
He looked down at his surroundings, and when he found no sign of Natalie, he smiled mockingly and got into their car.
Soon, the case was reopened for retrial.
All evidence was presented to the public.
Charlotte’s false accusations and Christian’s knowing violation of the law as a lawyer.
Online opinion reversed once again.
But Natalie didn’t focus on these comments.
Christian never refuted a single point throughout.
He didn’t listen to a word his father instructed him to say.
In his mind was only what Natalie had said when she came to confront him recently:
“Christian, you say you love me, but until I left, you never thought to clear my name from that case.”
“You chose to take revenge on Charlotte but never mentioned your own shameful acts. You say you owed Charlotte, you say it was for the Vale family. you say you had no choice.”
“Ha, but in my view, you only did it for yourself. Christian, you’re not just a terrible person–you’re thoroughly filthy!”
After Natalie left, Christian cried and laughed in despair.
He discovered his grief wasn’t just from Natalie’s unforgiving stance, but that her words had pierced through every bit of selfishness hidden in his heart.
Because Christian didn’t follow his father’s instructions, his father suffered a heart attack from anger and collapsed on the spot.
After waking up, he posted on his personal account, severing the father–son relationship with Christian.
He denounced Christian as an ungrateful son and expressed disgust at his illegal behavior.
Christian lost everything completely.
