Chapter 4
The hospital room door opened again. A nurse in uniform cautiously looked around before slipping a report into Natalie’s hand.
“Miss Warner, did you offend someone? You clearly have severe internal injuries, but they ordered us to forge a fake report for that gentleman.”
“This is your real report. You have old injuries to your throat, and there’s a foreign object in your stomach that needs surgical removal and
examination.”
The nurse quickly left after speaking.
Natalie stared blankly at the white wall.
The throat injury came from when she first arrived at prison, when a group forced her to swallow food with sharp objects that cut her throat.
She’d bled so much that day.
She remembered how once, before prison, someone had stolen her bag and scratched her leg.
Seeing the wound on her leg, Christian’s eyes had filled with heartache.
He’d held her tightly, apologizing all night..
From then on, he drove from the opposite direction every day to pick her up from work.
Forty minutes each way, through spring, summer, autumn, winter–never a single complaint.
And now….
Natalie looked mockingly at the medical report.
She’d been a fool.
Believing a man’s promises of forever love.
Natalie needed surgery but had no money for it, so she called Christian.
After all, the money she’d earned from work was still in his hands.
But the moment Christian heard “surgery,” he laughed coldly.
“Natalie, haven’t you performed enough? A few drinks and you need surgery? Things are chaotic here–can you stop adding to my problems!”
The phone was noisy, and soon she heard the man who’d just scolded her turn gentle: “Charlotte, you’re sick. You can’t eat that. Be good, listen to me!”
Even though she’d completely given up on Christian, Natalie’s heart felt strangled by rope, suffocating with dull pain.
She couldn’t cry anymore. She could only laugh maniacally.
Until she was too tired to laugh.
Her former cellmate paid for the surgery.
Ruby saw her pathetic state and lit a cigarette, putting it between her lips.
After a moment, she scolded angrily: “Tell me, how pathetic are you? Why did you contact such a man after getting out?”

Chapter 4
Eyes rimmed with dark circles, Natalie stared with cloudy eyes.
After a long while, she barely curved her lips.
“You think I still love him?”
“Don’t you? If I were you, I’d have slapped him and killed both those scumbags!”
Natalie smiled, eyes crinkling.
“How could that be enough?”
Christian had destroyed her life, putting her on a pillar of shame to be cursed and spat upon.
Yet he remained his prestigious self–the elite lawyer.
Charlotte had even become a successful lawyer herself in these three years.
Who knew they’d built their mountain of respect on her blood and flesh?
She wouldn’t forget the humiliation she’d suffered. She would drag Christian and Charlotte down to become mud under everyone’s feet!
“Ruby, do you know someone at the registry office?”
Ruby nodded in confusion.
“Ruby, please help me with one more thing. In a month, help me erase all information about Natalie Warner…”
When Christian learned Natalie had actually undergone surgery, he immediately rushed to her hospital room.
He specifically found experts to analyze the tumor removed from her stomach.
From meals to care, he treated her like a princess.
When the test results showed it was benign, he hugged Natalie in relief.
Only then did Natalie notice his trembling body.
Finding it somewhat laughable, she couldn’t help but mock: “Didn’t you not believe I needed surgery? Why are you so scared now?”
Christian knew she was angry.
He took her hands and pressed them to his lips, eyes filled with both worry and struggle.
“Natalie, I found who forged the report. She’s Charlotte’s friend who wanted to defend Charlotte by doing something stupid. I’ve already punished her for you, gotten your revenge-”
Natalie suddenly looked up to meet his eyes.
“I want to know–how did you punish her?”
