Chapter 5
Daniel froze, feeling struck by an invisible electric current. Meanwhile, a divorce agreement was delivered to his office.
His breathing became rapid. “What the fuck are you talking about? I asked you to take care of Andrea. This isn’t funny.
His assistant was about to cry. “Mr. Trivett, I’m not joking.”
After quite a while, he clutched his phone. “No way. No way Andrea would die just like that.
“Find her. I don’t care how many people you send. I must see her even if it means you have to turn the world upside down.”
His assistant hung up, shaking. Purchase completed
Samuel heard the whole thing and shed tears out of fear. “Dad, is Mom … dead?”
Daniel wiped away the tears on his face. “No. That’s impossible. Don’t worry; I’ll get her back.”
“Daniel?” Just then, Dana’s affected sweet voice rang out. “I want the cupcakes from Chef’s Choice in the east of the town. Could you buy some for me?”
She felt great after knowing I was dead.
“Samuel, Daniel, don’t be sad. I’m sure Andrea is fine.”
She coaxed Samuel gently, taking him back to his room, “Samuel, you hate Andrea, right? Isn’t it perfect now that she’s dead? I’ll be your new
mom.”
Suddenly, he pushed her hard, and she fell to the bed.
“You’re not my mom! Andrea is my mom!”
Crying, he threw himself into Daniel’s arms. “I don’t want her to be my mom! Andrea is my only mom!”
Clutching Daniel’s arm, Dana cried pitifully. “Daniel, I didn’t… I just wanted to make Samuel feel better…”
Daniel’s eyes turned cold as he slowly pulled away his arm. “Andrea is and will be my only wife.”
Then he took Samuel to leave, and she kept wailing.
“Daniel! Daniel! Where are you going? Are you going to abandon me and our baby?”
Yet, he left without even looking back. Her eyes flickered as she watched his retreating figure.
Daniel took Samuel to his office, and his assistant handed him the divorce papers with trembling hands. After a few minutes of silence, he asked calmly, “When did these arrive?”
His assistant stuttered, “Not long after … Mrs. Trivett left…”
His gaze fell on the signatures at the bottom. He signed the papers neatly, whereas Andrea’s signature was smudged by something like tears.
Sneering, he tore the divorce papers into pieces and then paced back and forth in the office. Suddenly, he picked up the ceramic glass sent by Dana on the desk and threw it violently at the door. The ceramic glass shattered into pieces, and the splashing fragments scratched his cheek, but he didn’t care. “Look into it. Find out everything about Andrea. Everything!”
Realizing something off, Samuel said a bit hesitantly, “Dad, Mom already knew Dana was pregnant.”

Daniel immediately turned his icy gaze to Samuel, who timidly looked away. “Dana asked me to video–call Mom to let Mom know. She said as long as Mom saw you and her doing it and knew about the baby, Mom would leave on her own.”
The veins on Daniel’s forehead bulged as he gritted his teeth. “Samuel!”
Samuel shivered and closed his eyes. “Dad hit me. Mom left because of me.”
With that, he opened one of his teary eyes. “Dad, after you punish me, could you get Mom back? As long as she’s back, I promise I’ll drink every drop of the bitter herbal tea from now on.”
Daniel slumped to the chair, looking at Samuel, unable to utter a word.
