I was about to leave, so maybe this was the last time I cooked for them.
Thinking this, I nodded.
At night, I finished cooking. After I sat and waited for four hours, they came back.
Dana looked very surprised. “Andrea, it was just a joke. You actually cooked all these dishes? But we’ve already eaten outside.”
She sat at the table. “You must have spent hours preparing the food. But it’s all cold.
“Cold food isn’t healthy for me.”
Daniel and Samuel sat down together with her. Then Daniel tapped her forehead gently and said, “No worries.”
Turning to me, he continued, “Andrea, go heat up the food.
When I was reheating, Dana deliberately splashed cold water into the sizzling pan on the stove. Immediately, hot oil was everywhere. Hearing the sound, Daniel strode over and shielded her, looking at the barely visible red dot on her hand. I, however, didn’t dodge in time, and my face and even my eyes were in immense pain.
Samuel kicked me hard twice. “You did it on purpose!”
Daniel scolded him briefly and then left with Dana in his arms.

I didn’t ask him why he was in the OB–GYN Department. I just smiled, “You’re in the wrong place. I don’t work at the OB–GYN Department.”

It was soon my turn to see the doctor, and I was a bit anxious, trying to come up with a reason. Just then, his phone rang, and I heard Dana’s voice on the other end of the line.

I submitted my resignation to my superiors in the hospital and asked them to keep it a secret for me. They seemed to have already heard some rumors and nodded sympathetically.

“Andrea, you’re the hostess. Shouldn’t you entertain our guest?”
He reprimanded me righteously.
I smile sarcastically, thinking, “What kind of guest? The kind that got knocked up by you?”
As I was about to leave, he tossed some of her underwear into my arms. “Dana is thin–skinned and doesn’t want her underwear to be touched by strangers. Go wash them for her.”

I looked at the “thin–skinned” Dana behind him, saying sarcastically, “Is she disabled or what?”
She burst into tears instantly. “Maybe I’ll wash them myself. My hand is almost recovered–it doesn’t hurt anymore. Besides, I’m a guest. Having you wash my underwear is so inappropriate.”
Daniel’s eyes darkened with anger.
He picked up a glass and hurled it at me. Being pregnant made my body clumsy, and I failed to dodge in time. Blood instantly oozed out and ran down my forehead.
