Chapter 9
Over the following days, Christian stayed busy preparing for his wedding with Charlotte.
Charlotte pulled out love letters they’d exchanged in the past, filled with fantasies about their future wedding.
She leaned against his ear, joyfully reciting them over and over.
But Christian no longer felt the anticipation and patience of before.
He gently pushed Charlotte away, his weary eyes growing irritated.
“Just handle the wedding preparations yourself.”
Originally they’d agreed it was just for show.
But Charlotte had already asked him countless times just about the color of flowers for the ceremony.
These days, he worked at the law firm during the day.
At night, he had to accompany Charlotte selecting all sorts of random things, leaving him exhausted.
By the time they finished, it was always late.
Natalie was a light sleeper, so to avoid disturbing her rest, he’d been sleeping at the office.
Christian knew Natalie felt wronged.
He owed her too much. He would spend his lifetime repaying her.
He would love her properly, make amends properly.
Soon… all of this would be over…
He opened his drawer and took out the wedding ring lying quietly inside.
When Natalie went to prison, she’d personally removed it from her ring finger and thrown it at him.
For three years, he’d carefully preserved it, waiting for its owner’s return.
Recently, with troubles piling up one after another, he’d forgotten about this again.
Full of guilt, he pulled out his phone to text her.
“Honey, I remember you wanted to visit the Southwest. In a few days, let’s travel together, okay?”
As soon as Christian sent the message, a red exclamation mark appeared in the chat window.
He frowned at the glaring red mark.
Thinking Natalie was just throwing another tantrum, he immediately closed his phone and leaned back on the sofa in frustration.
On the wedding day, everything was different from the original plan.
Seeing the endless stream of people coming and going, Christian’s expression darkened.
He pulled Charlotte, who was constantly greeting people, into a room.

Chapter 9
“Charlotte, didn’t we agree to only invite mutual friends? Why did you call reporters and media too!”
Charlotte happily placed her hands on Christian’s shoulders.
“Not just media reporters! I invited all those online fans who support us being together.”
“Christian, can’t you see? Everyone supports us. They all want us together. In everyone’s eyes, I’m much more suitable for you than Natalie! We’re meant to be!”
“If not for your parents, we might have married long ago–we might even have children by now!”
She stood on tiptoes, her nose brushing against Christian’s chin.
But the next second, the man before her coldly pushed her away.
“We agreed the wedding was just for show, then you’d drop the lawsuit against Natalie for exposing your privacy. I’ve done everything you asked. I even fulfilled all five of your wishes.”
“After this wedding, we’ll have no relationship whatsoever.”
“Even with all these people watching, I could never be with you again. Charlotte, the past is the past. I’ve fallen in love with Natalie. I won’t abandon her again!” he declared firmly.
The smile froze on Charlotte’s face.
Cold spread from her feet throughout her body.
But before she could speak, Christian had already opened the door and left.
Charlotte panicked, lifting her dress to chase after him.
“Groom, where are you rushing off to? Can’t wait to take our Charlotte to the honeymoon suite?” Several friends suddenly surrounded Christian.
“Why so impatient, Christian?”
“You guys don’t get it! Christian’s had enough plain food–time for something refined! Hahahaha*
His gaze turned icy, lips pressed into a straight line. “Had enough?”
“Then get lost!”
The person who’d made that comment was Charlotte’s subordinate.
Rebuffed, his face cycled through shades of embarrassment as he looked toward Charlotte behind Christian.
Charlotte’s expression also soured.
Frowning, she stepped forward to take Christian’s arm.
Christian recoiled as if electrocuted.
The atmosphere grew awkward as onlookers averted their gazes.
Just as Christian was about to leave, the fans Charlotte had invited rushed over with phones and cameras.
