Chapter 8
When she went to prison, her only request to Christian was that he not tell her grandmother in the countryside about any of this.
She’d grown up dependent on her grandmother, who knew nothing about what her father had done to her.
Grandmother was elderly with a bad heart.
She couldn’t bear to imagine how heartbroken her grandmother would be upon learning the truth.
Natalie’s face showed a smile she hadn’t worn in ages.
Holding flowers, her hand had just touched the hospital room door handle when the sound of something shattering came from inside.
“Take one last look–this is your granddaughter being molested by her own father. I have dozens more photos here. Let you see them all at once!”
“I heard you personally sent her to live with her father. What’s that called? The root cause? Ha, seems like you deserve to die too. Your granddaughter killed the father who molested her and served three years in prison. Just got released!”
“Tell me, why is such a rotten person still alive?”
The door burst open with a bang.
Seeing her, Charlotte’s smile gradually faded.
“Grandmother!”
Natalie’s hoarse voice echoed through the room.
The elderly woman lying there was pale, her cloudy eyes full of tears.
Her withered hands desperately clutched at her chest, struggling violently, gasping for air.
“Natalie… Natalie…”
The heart monitor suddenly emitted sharp alarms!
Seeing this, Charlotte nervously began backing away.
But she accidentally stepped on the broken dishes she’d just smashed.
“Ahhh!”
The thin sole was pierced through, blood pooling on the floor. In her terror, she had an episode.
“Charlotte! What’s wrong?”
Christian suddenly rushed in from the doorway.
Seeing her frightened state, he anxiously swept her into his arms.
His eyes coldly captured Natalie, who was emotionally collapsed, repeatedly calling “Grandmother.”
“Natalie! How many times have I told you–why do you keep troubling Charlotte!” he shouted angrily.
But Natalie never took her eyes off her grandmother.

Charlotte suddenly began breathing rapidly.
He couldn’t care about anything else. “Everyone come help Charlotte! She can’t breathe!”
The doctor performing CPR on Natalie’s grandmother was torn.
“But-”
“No buts! If something happens to Charlotte, none of you will get off easy!”
Natalie felt struck by lightning, her dry eye sockets burning with pain.
“No! No! Christian, Grandmother passed out!”
She practically fell to her knees, trying to grab Christian’s pants.
But he looked coldly down, disgust floating in his eyes.
“If your grandmother still has strength to hurt Charlotte, how could anything be wrong!”
He turned and left without hesitation.
The doctors sighed helplessly. “Miss, your… your grandmother is gone. Please accept our condolences.”
Large, scalding tears fell onto her arms as she kept shaking her head in disbelief.
Using all her strength, she grabbed at the doctors who were reluctantly leaving.
“Please, please save my grandmother!”
She collapsed to the floor, clawing desperately at the departing doctors‘ coats, her forehead slamming against the cold tiles in desperation.
But they couldn’t delay further and had to leave the room.
Looking at the suddenly quiet room, she couldn’t help but scream, the collapse and despair on her face nearly consuming her!
On the day Natalie was leaving, the sky was dark with heavy clouds.
After numbly handling her grandmother’s funeral arrangements, she returned home for her luggage only to find Christian, who’d been missing for days, was also there.
A stack of documents suddenly appeared before her.
Christian rubbed his temples. “This is Charlotte’s final wish.”
“She wants to make amends and have a wedding ceremony with me. It’s all for authenticity–we’ll divorce first, then just not get remarried after the cooling–off period.”
Natalie indifferently took the documents.
Without hesitation, she signed her name.
He suddenly breathed a sigh of relief.
“Honey, it’s finally going to end. Have you thought about where to travel? We can bring Grandmother–the three of us can go together.”
Before Natalie could respond, Christian’s phone rang again.
“Christian, didn’t we agree on a time to try on wedding dresses? Are you here yet?”

He checked his watch and hurriedly grabbed his coat to leave.
At the entrance, he suddenly stopped and looked back at Natalie.
She still sat there quietly.
Yet something seemed missing.
He shook his head–perhaps he was overthinking.
The door closed, and only then did Natalie’s eyes show emotion.
She pulled out their wedding photos from the corner and tore each photo in half down the middle.
Until torn pieces covered the entire floor.
Then she packed her luggage and left without looking back.
She would send the happy couple an unforgettable wedding gift!
