Chapter 3
Natalie coldly pushed away the wine glass in front of her.
Someone immediately became indignant.
“What’s she acting so high and mighty for? Charlotte already apologized so humbly, what more does she want!”
“Exactly. We didn’t come here to watch Charlotte get mistreated. What’s Christian thinking? Charlotte sacrificed her reputation to stay with him for three years–he’s so ungrateful!”
Christian clenched his jaw, glancing at the wronged Charlotte, then at Natalie beside him.
Finally, his slender fingers took Charlotte’s wine glass from mid–air and held it before Natalie.
“Natalie, be good. Don’t make a scene in front of everyone.”
Natalie couldn’t stop herself from wanting to laugh.
Make a scene? Whose scene–Charlotte’s?
Seeing that she still wouldn’t take it, Christian’s eyes darkened as he leaned close to her ear.
“You haven’t visited your grandmother in so long. Natalie, be obedient. Don’t embarrass Charlotte. Drink this, and I’ll take you to see your grandmother.”
Grandmother?!
Finally, Natalie’s eyes showed emotion.
Looking at the swirling wine before her, she could already taste something metallic in her throat.
Without further hesitation, she grabbed the glass and drained it.
The atmosphere eased momentarily.
But then those people started taking turns raising glasses to toast her.
Natalie instinctively looked toward Christian.
He nodded slightly, signaling her to drink them all.
Under the table, Natalie’s hands trembled as she gripped her pants tightly.
Her fingertips were pale from pressure, her face an unusual white.
But Christian never noticed these changes.
He was busy peeling shrimp for Charlotte.
Charlotte, however, kept glancing at her with mischievous amusement.
One glass, two glasses, three glasses…
Natalie lost count of how much wine she’d been forced to drink.
The burning pain in her stomach had her breaking out in cold sweat.

“Natalie, let me toast you one more time!” Charlotte smiled as she offered another glass.
But Natalie’s throat constricted, and blood suddenly sprayed out.
“AHHHHH-”
Christian immediately shielded Charlotte, the blood splattering across his white shirt.
Natalie’s eyes closed tightly as her body fell backward uncontrollably.
“Natalie!”
When she woke again, Natalie was in the hospital.
Harsh lights shone on her eyelids.
Christian had been sitting beside her for who knows how long.
Seeing her awake, his eyes filled with coldness.
“You really went all out just to avoid drinking.”
“Natalie, when did you become so scheming? So good at acting?”
Natalie’s heart lurched.
“You think I was faking illness?”
This was the first thing Natalie said after their reunion.
It made Christian frown.
This voice was so different from the soft, gentle one in his memory.
Looking at Natalie, who had lost so much weight, he fell silent.
Only when he’d carried her earlier did he realize–why was she so thin?
Light as a feather, with no weight at all.
Guil began to sprout in his heart again.
Christian sighed deeply and sat back down beside her.
His warm palm pressed against the back of Natalie’s hand, trying to drive away the cold.
“Natalie, I’ve completed three of the five things I promised Charlotte. Just two more left. Once I fulfill my promise to her, I can completely let go of the
past.”
“Then, if you don’t want to stay in Boston, we’ll go abroad. You said you wanted to live somewhere full of flowers–I’ll buy an entire estate and plant it full of flowers for you…”
He described this enthusiastically.
But didn’t notice the hollow, pale look in the eyes of the woman on the hospital bed.
“My grandmother–where is she?”
Natalie interrupted his fantasy. Christian looked confused.

Then, realizing what she’d asked and about to respond, the door was suddenly pushed open forcefully.
“Christian, Charlotte’s having another episode! You need to come quickly!”
The warm palm quickly withdrew from her hand as Christian rushed out of the room, not even glancing back at the woman behind him.
Natalie watched his retreating figure and let out a mocking laugh.
