Chapter 2
Christian still looked exactly as Natalie remembered.
His features radiant and increasingly smug
Her lashes trembled slightly as she watched his slender hand rest on her shoulder.
Before she could push him away, a voice came from across the street.
“Natalie! You’re here!”
The moment Charlotte Reed’s voice rang out, the hand on Natalie’s shoulder quietly moved away.
Natalie didn’t respond. The atmosphere froze.
Charlotte approached with red rimmed eyes, reaching for Natalie’s hand.
“Natalie, everything before was my fault. I sincerely want to apologize to you.”
Seeing her tears, Christian couldn’t help but explain.
“Charlotte’s been preparing this celebration for you since early morning–choosing the restaurant, decorating. She’s been so busy she hasn’t even eaten. She really wants to make things right.”
Lach of their words seemed to accuse Natalie of being unreasonable.
No one cared how she’d spent three years in prison, framed and bearing the label of murderer!
Just as she was about to speak, Christian pulled her into the restaurant.
Before they even entered. Natalie could hear voices discussing her inside.
“If it weren’t for Christian and Charlotte’s sake, I wouldn’t be here eating with a murderer. Celebrating what? That she killed someone?”
“Exactly! I warned Christian before–who knows how someone from such a low–class background was raised. With that kind of history, she’s just dirty!”
“Speaking of dirty, I heard the reason she killed her father was because he tried to rape her! Molested as a child, and when he tried to go further as an adult, it backfired”
“Really? Christian actually fell for someone like that? Compared to Charlotte, she’s so inferior. If Christian’s parents hadn’t objected back then, he and Charlotte would probably have kids by now!”
Hearing these words, Christian’s expression immediately changed
Instinctively, he pulled Natalie tightly into his arms, pressing his palms over her ears.
This was a reflex deeply ingrained in Christian’s mind.
But the familiar trembling never came
Instead, a pair of skeletal hands gently pushed him away
Christian stared at her in shock.
He knew what he was thinking.

Chapter 2
Natalie’s father’s childhood abuse had always been an old wound hidden in her heart.
Whenever she suffered remembering it, Christian would comfort her this way.
Like armor, he carefully protected her wounded heart.
Christian said he’d protect her, that he’d never let anyone hurt her again.
But until that day in court, Natalie discovered this armor was covered in poisoned thorns, piercing her until she couldn’t breathe.
The stares and disgust she should have faced, she’d already endured.
She no longer needed armor from the very person who’d caused it all.
Christian’s chest tightened with indescribable discomfort.
He immediately directed his frustration at the people inside.
The next second, he kicked the door open violently.
The discussion inside immediately stopped.
With a dark expression, he glared at those who had been gossiping about Natalie.

“Natalie Warner is my wife. Nothing she experienced was her choice. If you have issues with her, come to me. If you don’t want to be here, I won’t force you. No need to be two–faced!”
The seated guests exchanged glances and fell silent.
Seeing Christian’s expression, a flash of jealous hatred crossed Charlotte’s eyes.
But the next second, she put on a pitiful look, carrying wine to Natalie.
She drained her glass in one gulp.
Then held out the remaining glass to Natalie.
“It’s all my fault. I just wanted everyone to be happy. Natalie, I’m formally apologizing to you here. Can you forgive me?”
