Natalie Warner’s husband Christian was Boston’s most famous lawyer–the “undefeated champion.”

Three years later, the prison gates finally opened.
A black sedan sat waiting, but the man who stepped out wasn’t her husband.
“Ma’am.” The assistant approached cautiously with bundles of dried sage. “Mr. Vale said… sage cleanses bad energy. I’m sorry.”
He began brushing the sage against her body.
Natalie’s lips curved into a cold smile.
He thinks I bring bad luck?

Three years in prison, she would never forget that day…
Charlotte went insane, ran out of her house with a gas can, trying to burn Natalie alive.
Instead, she accidentally killed Natalie’s father.
Natalie told Christian everything.
But on the day of the trial, he stood on the opposing side.
When Natalie’s lawyer eloquently presented thick stacks of evidence defending her, Christian calmly pulled out a file folder.
“There’s something everyone doesn’t know. I have another identity–I’m Natalie Warner’s husband.”
“I know Natalie’s father molested her as a child and attempted to assault her as an adult. The photos in this folder are evidence, proving she had motive and intent to kill.”
The courtroom erupted!
Even Natalie’s defense lawyer couldn’t help but stare at her.
Natalie stared wide–eyed as thunder crashed in her head.
Like tinnitus, she couldn’t see the pointing fingers below or hear the murmuring voices.
She never imagined that this scar buried deep in her heart would be torn open by the person she loved most…
The next fifteen minutes of trial, with Christian’s new evidence and argument, painted her as a cold–blooded killer!

When the trial ended, the judge’s gavel felt like it struck her skull.
Natalie’s voice broke: “Why?”
A flash of struggle crossed Christian’s eyes.
“Charlotte developed severe mental illness after we broke up because she was assaulted at a bar. I promised her five wishes as compensation…”
“She said she didn’t want to go to prison. I had no choice… Natalie, I’m sorry, but don’t worry–I’ll wait for you no matter how long!”
Hearing his words, Natalie burst into laughter.
Laughing until tears slid into her mouth, bitter as broken gallbladder.
She’d had a crush on Christian for seven years.
When he broke up with Charlotte and drowned himself in bars, she was the one who stayed behind him, safely bringing him home.
When he forgot to eat during work, she always prepared meals he liked in advance.
She waited for him silently for so long, just to hear “Natalie Warner, marry me.”
After marriage, he treated her well.
Anything she glanced at, he bought for her.
Every dish she loved, he memorized.
She thought her efforts had finally paid off.
But Charlotte’s single sentence–she didn’t want to go to prison–and Christian chose without hesitation to let Natalie take the blame.
He even dug up the pain she’d buried deep in her heart, displaying it bloody for everyone to see!!!
“Natalie, I’ll help with your defense, prove you didn’t mean to kill. Just plead guilty, behave well in prison, and try for early release.”
“Trust me. You’ll always be my only wife, Natalie Warner.”
He wanted her to trust him?
Tears streaming down her face, she laughed at the man across from her…
“Ma’am, we’re here.”
The memory cut short.
Natalie calmly blinked her aching, swollen eyes.
How long had it been since she’d cried?
Her tears had dried up completely in prison.
The doctor said she’d never be able to cry again for the rest of her life.
She looked at the unfamiliar street, then at the luxury restaurant, staying silent.
The car door suddenly opened from outside.
Christian appeared before her with a smile.
